what tire size would be a good fit on a 68 roadrunner with 18x9 in the rear and 17x8 in the front and will still have a good amount of sidewall?

The rear you could run a 285/40/18 and be decent. As for front you could go with a 265/45/17. 285 would probably be the max I'd go on a 9" rim...

I know my car is a different year, but on my 71 GTX, I went with 17x8 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. With that combo, I have 245/45r17 in the front and 295/45r18 in the back. Nice sidewall and fit with no mods. Not too tall of a tire either - Craig

I run 295/45r18 on the rear, it all depends on clearances that are determined by backspacing/offset. I have no wheel well modifications, 18x10's on rear.

Can you snap a pic from the back? I wanna see that in all its glory:thumbsup:

I'm in the middle of hurricane Mathew, won't be near the garage for the next few days, but i'll send a picture once I make it back home.

We were just there a few weeks ago for a mini vacation - I love it there. Stay safe !

FWIW, I have 5" offset Year One 17x9 aluminum rally wheels on the back and 315/35/17s Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials look and fit like they were supposed to be there. 4.5" offset 8" fronts.

Thanks Budnicks , yes they really do! Year One did a great job paying homage to the 15" steel factory rallys that came on my car. I am especially hyped that I got those 315/35/17 Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials on them and they fit so well. Looking forward to November 13th track day and better 1st gear traction which was non-existent last November at my 1st track outing.

I run a 18x9.5 with 285/35 on all 4 corners, no rubbing up front and it's lowered a bit with the hotchkis tvs kit

UPDATE:
The 315/35/17 Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials did a really good job of improving my times and traction off the line. I still have to take it easy right off the line, but my traction is significantly improved from just a tire and wheel change. 6/10s of a second faster, a good bit of which I credit to my baby's new shoes.
