Hi all

Just about sorted some redlines for our 69 Sport Satellite, so now we (bro & I) need a set of something suitable for the 63 Polara.

I'm thinking 215/75x15 for the front (on 5" rims) and 235/75x15 for the rear (5.5"). Prefer plain black sidewall but RWL or narrow whitewall would do as long as they are plain on the other side. Must be radial tho.

I've seen a few off-road looking tires and a few modern/euro/jap looking tires in these sizes, but I'd rather have some good ol' US tires that look like they came from the early 60's.

Have any of you guys got anything that ticks those boxes?

I looked at the old favourites, BFG Radial T/A, but they dont do 75 series.
There are some other BFGs, 'Long Trail', but they look a bit too SUV.
Some of the General tires look a bit too chunky too, although a friend did get a set this size, and they were narrow whitewall which he mounted on the inside, and the name on the sidewall was 'General Americas' (with a star before the 'cas').
Cant find them for sale on the net tho :thinker:

Anyone? :icon_thumleft:

Have ya looked at Cokertire.com, they probably have what ya need.

This will give you an idea of what 225 75 14 look like...even though you are going with 15"

I think my front tires are 215/75-15's or they might be 225's as I will have to go out to the garage and look. I use 6" Torque Thrust rims up front and the rear tires are 30 x 9. Ron

Thanks for the help guys. Again :)
I had looked at Coker but was hoping to find some plain blackwall tires to look at too. After second thoughts tho, Coker mite be the best bet if I stick to plan A and get a set of narrow whitewall (cheaper than wide whitewall) and mount them back-to-front, or inside-out. As long as they only have the whitewall on the one side? I think that's the usual case :thinker:
They have some 'American Classic' narrow whitewalls in those sizes that have a tread pattern that looks kind of 60's.

I'm keen to stick with these sizes as a mate of ours over here had the same size on his 65 Satellite a few years ago and we all thought they had the right look for this era...

(wrong wheels/caps I know, but they still look great :icon_cool:)

This is the American Classic I was looking at, available from Coker & Universal Vintage Tires, both the same price ($158 for the 215 & $165 for the 235).

I can get the same tire from our main supplier over here but they want about the same in £££ +tax, so that's more than 50% more. Even allowing for shipping costs I should be able to save almost a couple hundred pounds by buying direct from the States

Not the most attractive tread pattern I've seen but better than most :eusa_eh:

Still looking....

Just noticed a typo at the start of this thread - the wheels are 5.5 for the front & 6" for the rear, so should be a bit more suitable for those tire sizes I mentioned.

Also came across this Cooper tire. Not a bad tread pattern (well, not as bad as most) and the waffle on Cooper's 'site says it's available with or without the whitewall, so I'd opt for without if possible. Or fit them inside out if they only come with w/wall on one side.

Cheap too. $75 & $80 (plus shipping, which is a bit pricey) from Discount Wheel Warehouse.

I know there a couple other better looking radials out there but I'd rather not pay over $200 per tire if I dont have to :eusa_eh:

I'm already doing that for the Satellite's redlines, so there is a limit :icon_wink:

what look are you after exactly if its mid sixtys in my opinion the only choice is bias ply tires that will have the correct style side wall your looking for the only draw back to bias plys are they are old technology and do not ride and handle as nice as radials but if you can sacrifice performance for looks then biasply are the way to go thats just my 2 cents.

This looks very similar to your mate's Satellite.
