Titles

That "other" thread DOES exist on the site!

I thought it had three Ts. Maybe my spellcheck isn't working.

It does, but you still think of the things no matter how it's spelled. Sometimes even with an L. I'm thinking of some right now. I guess I have a twisted mind though.lol

I’m not sure I understand.
The car was sold before Joe Owner passed away.
Is there not a bill of sale from him to Billy Buyer?
I think that a bill of sale from him would go a long way to establishing ownership on Billy’s part and fraud on son’s if the son tried anything.
It certainly pays to be cautious.
I’m out of my depth and each state probably handles it differently.
My understanding is that a title is good for as long as a person owns the car, which is the whole question isn’t it?
As we can see from my personal experience and other people who have obtained "titles", it is quite possible to have bought a vehicle with a title and someone may actually be able to produce another one given the chain of custody of some antique cars.
So even a title is no guarantee.
Years ago I was contacted by an attorney over some property that was left out of a great aunt’s will. Two fellows were arguing over the land. We didn’t know it existed.
One fellow had been paying taxes on it with the hope of establishing ownership. By that time there were so many “heirs” that it was pointless to even make a case for any monetary compensation personally.
Most of the “heirs” just quit claimed to settle it and gave the money to those on up the chain.
My wife has also been contacted to release mineral right on a property that a great grandfather owned. One can sell the land and retain mineral rights.
Her portion of it is quite small percentage wise. But the mineral royalties may be substantial.
I just can’t see very many collector cars falling into the category of someone producing a title from grandpa’s dresser, getting all the heirs involved and it being worthwhile.
But never say never with MOPARs, they say.
Though I think that refers to options and such.
The advent of the internet seems like a good reason not to give my VIN number to anyone because of dad’s drawers
Where does that leave us on “registries”?

Hello All,LOL No wonder I got a bad grade in spelling LOL LOL titled lol lol Dave L

Hello All,My side hurts from laughing,An up date on my title. The papers came today from the court house granting me ownership of my dodge coronet 500.I took them to an notary and they said I had to have a stamp soooo back out to the court house to get a stamp.Taking all the things out of my pockets including my belt they finally left me in.The lady was real nice.Seven dollars please.
