Im new here but not new to cars. Found a 67 GTX 4 speed car with factory console. Whats a poll to keep and use inbred shifter or remove and put good shifter in it. This car is pretty original and could use restoring but its all there and a driver. Im new to Mopars. sorry if the question seems dumb as dirt......

Define "inbred shifter"? I personally like the consoles "look nicer then just a shifter sticking out of the floor".

Well Id have to google to remember the offset terminology on the mopar shifter, but in the chevys I had I always used really short throw shifters. Im excited about this Mopar project. Everybody has a darn Camaro.......

i have the same problem if its a matching engine block than i would keep it org. if not i would convert to 4spd.

Its a factory 4 speed car with the Dana 60 still in it with a factory tach. Wrong block. rest of it is numbered right.

I would leave the console and get the correct shifter for your car. Brewers Performance will get you the correct parts, just call and talk to them. They are a great and knowledgeable bunch and only deal in MOPAR.

I would say if you are dead set on using an aftermarket shifter setup....at least put your console parts into dry storage. One day you will regret selling those parts. :)

X2 on what 70redbee just said... Personally I like/prefer the console in these cars, even if it's a racer or street/strip car & nospin by the way welcome to FBBO, maybe you could go to the welcome wagon forum & introduce yourself, give us some background & maybe even show some photos of the 67 GTX 4 speed & alleged shifter & console

The 67's used the Inland shifter (is that what you are calling inbred?) and they were off set to the center for a console car. As suggested above, call Brewers....they will tell you what does and doesn't work. I'll bet somehow you can get a hurst shifter to work with the console, and I would think you could get a shifter with longer levers for a short throw if that's what you are after.

I would personally keep the console....it's neat and rarer to see.

Naw, ditch the console and shifter, send it to me. :icon_biggrin: Welcome to the site.

I say keep the console. You could always convert to the Hurst shifter if you don't like the Inland.

Thanks guys! I need to go to the welcome wagon board and post I guess and my mechanical knowledge would be help to some of the questions I see ask since Ive done it all and built race cars over the many years. I just really didn't know from mopar to mopar guy if you looked over in there and saw the factory tach and console if it youd think it was rare or not. Ive known this old car since the mid 70's and ended up with it. It has PS and Power brakes but drums on the front. It seems to be harder to find this kinda car than a Chevy!

my 66 Charger is original 4spd car...I actually have a pair of them. What I did was take the console & shifter handle out and make it a 67 style without console so people could see the difference between the 2 when parked side by side. The shifter handle on the console style is crocked to come through the top opening

The Inland style was from 66 to mid 68 cars, then they went to Hurst linkage
