MPG that's funny... yeah more like 12 Gallons Per pass {48 gal. under full power per/mile}, they only run for about 45-60 seconds of running, burnout back up & stage, & most is at idle only, less than 10 seconds are on "both pumps &/or the High side" & only less than 4 seconds is at full throttle...

alleyoop that was cool... allot of people don't have a clue how much fuel they actually will go thru, remember Nitro Methane carries much of it's own oxygen too, making tuning from any other types of fuels very different than with Nitro Methane, you add more fuel or larger nozzles, your adding oxygen & compression too... Then you need a damn blow torch to light the stuff in those volumes too, it lights very easy when in vapor form {don't ask me how I know}, very different beast than Gasoline or even Metanol combo...
 
lol i gotta ask... how do you know about the vapors igniting???? this ought to be an interesting answer!!
 
set the scene, it was about 1990 in Tulsa Ok.

:iamwithstupid: OK the short version, we were racing in Tulsa Oklahoma at a Nostalgia race, My 23 Altered & a Chutepack FE Fuel car, it was at least 105* in the shade, it's between racing rounds, there was a bunch of fuel spilled all around the pit are, during a teardown by a novice crew guy {my nephew Keith}, he didn't cap off the barrel valve & main fuel feed from the pump, after helping/lifting off the blower on the Pete & Marlene K.'s, Front Engine Nostalgia fuel car, fuel from all the lines had spilled or leaked all over the place, shortly after that a friend/regular crew member John P., comes storming up in a rental car, slides into the parking area, kicking up dust, distracting said crew, "he's holding a lit cigarette in hand", he jumps out tosses the lit butt on the ground, yells "I'm here finally", very shortly after that, they were all doing the hot foot jig, it caught both rugs on fire, that were under the cars, that we used to lay on or to keep the dust, dirt down & then both cars on fire/burnt somewhat, you really couldn't see the flames just felt the heat, it screwed up both paint jobs, melted the carpeting, melted a few wires on both cars, it didn't last very long either, my nephew put it out quick, with a fire extinguisher, that was hanging on the trailer door, thank goodness, I think it was 3 people got first & second degree burns on their legs, the men all had scorched leg hairs too, I was still in my nomex underwear, fire suit pants & shoes/booty's, I was asking why everyone was dancing around, very quickly I realized why, the whole damn pit area ground was on fire... Nitro Methane/Methanol fuel mixture doesn't light easy usually, but it was hot, the ground was hot, allot of fuel vapor in the air, floating lingering near the ground & dummy John P. throws a lit cigarette butt in the middle of it, not knowing any different, it was kind of fitting he was always kind of a pyro, he would light the damn garbage cans on-fire in then pits allot, after the races were over, when we would party or BBQ, he was kind of a goofy drunk too... see that's why...LOL...
 
wow thats quite a scene!! funny but at the same time could have been very serious also, thanks for sharing with us, now we know what NOT to do!!!! you da man budnicks!!
