Two questions, what is the "torque boxes" for and what would it take and it would it benefit me to install a front sway bar on my 66 Coronet 440/318? It does not currently have a sway bar on it.
You got torque boxes on 66-69 B bodies with either the hemi or on a convertible. It was for more body structure. It ties the frame rails to the rocker panels. Sway bar is just for less body roll. Makes them drive better in the curves. Only front sway bars as far as I know of on B bodies factory until 71 B body.
Matt
Sway bars help reduce roll around corners and come in diff diameters based on engine installed (weight) originally. You could look at the "parting out ads" and find someone who has the lower control arms w/ sway bar brackets and sway bar or get some aftermarket ones and not worry about the factory brackets.
As mentioned, torque boxes add stiffness to the car. Only you can say if they would benefit your ride, as they are a couple hundred $$ plus the prep and welding.
