Hello all,

I had a quick question. I recently been having issues with keeping the torque converters in my car. I know that there's a size difference between a a 904 and a 727 converter but is there a difference between slant 6 transmission converter and small block transmission converters?. I've chewed up two separate torque converters in my small block 904 1 was the factory torque converter the other I believe what is a torque converter from a slant 6 transmission. Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks

What do you mean by "chewed up"?

Alignment of the starter needs to be checked.

Thats what i thought too but it was sitting flush with the inspection plate.
Remember, you get some wiggle room to get the teeth on the ring gear and starter meshing nice....done wrong you can either jam up the teeth, or damage them over time.

Right on. I ask bc i know there is some differences in ring gears/flywheel in cast iron torqueflites but i assumed by when they went away from changing tfs ever year, in 1965, that they standardized components. But just wanted to make sure

Does the motor "kick back " when cranking? That will break the teeth. Mopar stock alignment should be fine. Are the trans dowel pins in the block? That could cause misalignment.

What starter do you have? On some mini starters, you will have to grind the engine block and/or starter body because the starter hits the block and will be cocked.
