Service manual doesn’t say anything about it, but are there a front and a rear to torsion bars? If so how do you tell?

Doesn't matter front to back, but there is a left/right when it comes to factory torsion bars. P/N stamped into the end of the bar-------Ending in odd #, drivers side.....even# for passenger.

OK great, thanks! Got the L & R down but wasn't sure of the front and back.

i just pulled mine out there is a letter stamp on one end and they were faceing front

No problem....I've seen a few guys that put the numbers to the back so they have quick reference to the P/N stamped, thus the size of torsion bar they have installed.

I just changed mine and I could've sworn both were marked "R" & "L"

I have a pair of factory bars and one has an R and the other has an L......but I didn't pay attention to which one came from what side.

Never seen an L & R stamped, just numbers..interesting. Maybe it's a year/size thing?
Mine came out of a 66 Belvedere. I know what side they came out of but didn't pay attention to see if the letters from pointed towards the front or not.

They weren't stamped in they were cast-in.
Yup....the numbers are part of the forging process and are not stamped in but it could also be said that springs are not castings :D

You also have 6 choices to get the hex ends indexed properly. Make sure that you select the correct one.

Torsion bars only matter L or R. Unload the bars & drop your suspension as much as possible, take the bumper stop off.
