Thanks to this site I got the info on disc brakes conversion. Getting the k member with the disc brakes complete intact from a Volare as well as the master brake cylinder and booster. If anyone knows any difference as I understand this will work in my 66 b body Satellite . I am going to install new ball joints and other front end components during the conversion.
What are the thoughts of dropping the k member and doing the proper job complete detailing of the sub frame. Is removing the torsion bars a big deal. I can read up on it in my Chiltons but nothing replaces actual experience. I have good mechanical skills but as I get older I learned asking for instructions or suggestions aint so bad. Thanks in advance Paul

You'll have to reuse your K frame, cause I believe the F body one will be setup for transverse torsion bars. Removing the bars isn't that hard, but you want to make sure you don't scar them. This makes a fracture point. If you're planning on replacing them then it doesn't matter.

Seems to me we just covered torsion bars somewhere on this site but can't remember where. Anyway, jack up the car and support under frame. Back off torsion bar adjusters all the way until they are loose. Remove wire clip from rear anchor to allow the bars to pass through. Now the tricky part. I have a tool I made years ago that I copied from the factory manual. Basically it's a steel block that clamps on the bar and you bang on it with a hammer. Drive the pin out of the steering coupler and drop the box with the K member.

What ever you do don't use any removal method that will gouge the bars. Seems I read somewhere you shouldn't swap them from side to side either, but since you really just need to slide them out of the way enough to get the K member out it should be easy to keep track of them.

66 torsion bars

Thanks to both of you for taking time to get the info I requested. I will take care to remove them. I bought a dvd off of ebay that is to be complete and along with your advice and its references I should be OK. Hopefully somewhere in it it has a picture of the tool .
