I am starting to poke around for an RV. It will just be my wife and I traveling and staying in it. I will need it to tow my fully loaded 24' enclosed trailer (approx 10,000lbs). I really don't want something as big and expensive as a Super C. For those of you that are towing race trailers behind an RV, what are you using?

A buddy of mine runs a 65 Dodge with a 383.

I used a 2010 26' Coachmen Freelander. Chevy 6 ltr 364 cdi. Allison 4 speed with locking converter.GM calls it a 5 speed.
Trailer weight was around 8-8500 lbs. Installed a class 5 hitch and did Timbren helper springs on the rear. It passed the total weight limit of 23,000 lbs by about 4,000 lbs. It was legal.
Used every season for 6 years. Drove all over the country.Comfort,Good for one or 2 people. It is now 14 years old and still using it tho we don't race anymore. pull motorcycles now. The thing I liked about it was the Allison transmission that you could manual shift it up or down. Thing I didn't like is it didn't stop as good as my 2003 Ram D350 dually with a Lance camper. I got used to the brakes after awhile. The Dodge and Lance was perfect for me until my wife started going with me.:BangHead::lol:

We used 6000lb. "Trailer Toad" between RV and trailer.
it made a huge difference.

Interesting, does it track or are wheels rigid when turning/backing?

I highly recommend a nice MotorHome,
just don't buy some underpowered (usually gas, 5 mpg)
POS C-class/van conversion

97 Safari diesel pusher,
Magnum chassis 360hp Cummins turbo diesel/Allison 5 speed
you can get them used for "relatively" cheap now
I had one when it was New to 4-ish years old, $100k+, sold for $80k
nothing like a nice class A Motorhome, traveling in comfort & style
like driving your couch down the hi-ways
(slept 6 pretty comfortably, shower/bathroom/kitchen, couches,
queen size bed in back over engine cover)

problem was needed to flat tow,
an alum Featherlite 28ft trailer over 11,000 #s loaded 2 cars
my altered & a top sportsman car
& a bunch of places we used to stay at, along the way
won't allow that long of a trailer & rig overall length, past like 45 feet combined,
made for a hard time on the road
& staying at camping spots along the way, I used to always stay at
almost 30 years old now they can be had a lot cheaper
but insurance is still high

Mine got 14-16 mph, most anywhere, towing at 75
if I didn't keep my foot in it
went back & forth across, a lot the US like 15 times, from Calif.
It's like there's not even having a trailer behind it, going down the road
parking it & fueling up, with a really long wheelbase rig is another issue...

you learn & get used to it

I'd say buy the nicest one biggest diesel powered one you can afford
you go cheap & it will bite you directly in the ***, leave you stranded
& having that **** towed is very expensive
so are/is diesel maintenance too

good luck
