1963 Fury 727 pushbutton gearshift cable leak at the transmission. Does changing the O ring seal this up? It looks to me like the cable itself is leaking. Maybe I need to replace the entire cable, and now I'm talking myself into changing the pan gasket which seems to be seeping a tiny bit, then I could see if I have big chunks in the fluid. I guess I'm just thinking out loud here...are the cables available anywhere or should I just try to use silicone or something where the end of the cable goes into a swaged looking deal?

it's possible changing the o ring will fix it,but it is more than likely the cable housing itself!Atlas obsolete parts has new cables, not cheap they are the only game in town! I might have a good one! I'll check in the am.If I do you can have it for $30.00! Let you know later.Steve

After seeing what replacement cables from Imperial costs, you might concider this bandaid.I removed both shifter cables from the shifter and slid fuel hose over the cables and smeared silicone or The Right Stuff gasket maker on the cable a few inches from the end on the trans side.I also used small hose clamps to help seal the trans side.Spray some lube inside the fuel line before sliding onto the shifter cables. This has worked for me for for many years. This also covered the spot that touched my header and melted the plastic on the shifter cable. Some day I will get new cables,,,,,,,,,when I get done throwing money at my money pit:eusa_boohoo::eusa_boohoo::eusa_boohoo:

I've been working on these cable shift trans. for many years. The cleanest most effective way to fix a leaking cable is to disconnect it from the shifter box and pull it out and get the correct diameter shrink tubing from Home depot.
Slide the whole piece of shrink tubing to the leaking section, heat it up.Then go to the next size larger shrink tubing and go over that again. Heat it up and reinstall the cable back to the pushbutton box.
It will look just like factory and double leak proof.

Thanks for the great ideas guys. I'll give the repair a try...turns out I misspoke, it is my park cable that leaks, the shifting cable is fine.

do it
the same way, slide over the shrink tubing. and viola.

I really like the shrink tubing deal, but if the shifter cable is leaking will any type of rubber/silicone be needed on the trans side????
