4 is the sweet spot
4 planetary fronts are not hard to find either but 3 should work
check the thrust washers everywhere including the planataries
if you have the case out and going to clean you can open up the oil feed

If I do it myself I will have the 727 bible out and going by it. I appreciate all of the info and tips.
 
In all my years of building 727's I've only ever seen 2 planets fail. Both were needle bearing failures. Currently running 3 pin planets at 900hp@3350lbs, 500 passes. The high power stuff works well with 5 frictions. Up to 700hp 4 frictions work fine.

Thanks. I doubt I will have over 400 HP all in. And I don't have any plans to race it.
