trans tunnel

Can you give me an accurate measurement from the back of the shifter tunnel, on the drivers side to the ridge on the floor behind it? Any other reference measurements will work and be appreciated also. Thanks.

here's my factory 63 dodge setup, sorry she's a bit dusty......

I'll get some measurements for you shortly.

I am getting ready to install a reproduction 4 speed shifter tunnel in my early B. I would like to get it placed in exactly the right spot before welding. Anybody have pictures or measurements to help?

Back to the original question.

What year is your car? I don't know about pre 1966 but 66-70 the floor pan is formed in such a way that when the original/repo humps were set down on the floor that they "pocket" right into the correct location.

Mine is 1965. I may be wrong, but I think all the early B's (1962-1965) share the same floor panels as well as many other parts.

Here are the best shots I have... I can measure for you if it helps. Just let me know what dimensions you're looking for.

Looks like you cut the original floor pan from the crossmember. I wonder if it would make sense for me to just cut up to the crossmember so that the crossmember remains "boxed"? Sure would like to see an original from the bottom side. I am going to copy your soundproofing too!

Hey Wedgie- The car is a factory four speed with the original floor still in place.

The pre-65 cars had the same floor whether manual or auto, and when a manual was made they cut the floor and added the hump, just like you see in my car.

I think that if you didn't cut up above the x-member, there wouldn't be room for the shifter's mechanism body.

they sure did, I remember looking at mine and thinking...

Who added this, then found out that's the way they did it pre 65....

Thanks guys. I'll make it as close to HitIt's as possible. I'm jealous of his ride anyway.

Looks like you've been humped!! LOL

Thanks for the compliment!

I just saw this thread again and thought someone got you some measurements already. I'll measure the best I can tonight.

I think it's in a fairly precise spot belive it or not. If it's off slightly I could see the shifter hitting the opening for the boot when going in reverse, first, third etc. There isn't that much room for the shifter mechanism once it's all together.

Thank to everybody's help (especially HitIt's) I got everything set. The last issue is the shifter handle. The Hurst handle that I purchased was supposed to be for a 1965 with a console but ends up being in the center of the console rather than to the left side where the cut out is in the console top. Does anybody have a picture of the shifter as it comes through the console on a '64 or '65?

Factory installed hump for '63 T85 car.
