Transmission help needed!

I'm pretty sure i've got a 727 in my 74' Plymouth roadrunner.. And before i bought it, i think the previous owner drove it to the ground.. now i've got a problem with my transmission.. I've got no forward gears, only Park, neutral, and reverse. I had it running the other day to check the linkages and they all seemed fine, but I went out yesterday to try and fix it, it wouldnt even turn over, or even engauge the engine. Do you guys have any idea on what it would be? Neutral safety switch?
 
Could be the actual ignition switch in the colomn its very common they go bad. With the key on, have you tryed jumping the Solenoid on the firewall with a screwdriver?
Also. Is your car a big block or a small block? 904's are typically in a small block and 727's for the latter. Now, sounds like its time for a rebuild or replacment of the trans.... What colors the fluid?

No forward gears is sometimes a sign of low fluid. Check the fluid and if it is black and smells burnt, could be a band is gone and it will need to be rebuilt. The neutral switch rarely fails, though it might be loose, most likely the ignition switch is bad or you have a lose wire, but the two issues do not seem to be related. Is there any tranny fluid leaking?

The 340 cars in 71-73 used 727's as did the 360 cars in 74.
 
decoded the fender tag, and it seems to be a regular duty - 904. I haven't really looked at it since I checked out the linkage, and it seemed to be alright. It's been way to cold to be outside checking it out. The fluid level seems fine, even a little over, didn't smell it though. I was thinking of looking in the transmission pan to see if they'res any pieces of metal that broke inside of the transmission that ended up there..? I will try to add more fluid also

If it is over, DO NOT add any fluid. Also, how did you check the fluid?

Did you check the fluid level with the engine on or off and was the tranny in neutral and on level surface. If you have a 904, then I am guessing you have a 318. The 904 is a rugged tranny, despite what anybody says, I raced my 318 68 charger many times and it held up fine, though I did beef it up some.
I say this over and over, you need to give us everything about the engine, car and tranny fo r anybody to really help you. Even if you think it has nothing to do with the problem, write a novel if you need too, you can never give to much info.

Firstly the easy way to tell a 904 and a 727 is.. a 904 was a smaller unit with a angle in the. a rear of the pan.. a 727 has a corner that has kinda a short turn that has like 2 bends. TO start check jump the solinoid ... you never said that this all worked when you parked it.. Here is a unusual instance. the E clip has come of the rooster comp on the valve body. and it is only moving th manual linkage on the outside of the trans... remove the pan remove the shift lever and then shift by hand .. look on the top side of the valvebody and see if the lever moves. good luck If that is good than I am afriad to say that your 727 has suffered a front clutch pack attack and needs too be rebuilt... thats all of it only three things ... hope it is the E clip. it is hard to get on in the car but comes off easy if not clipped:
