Can someone help identify a 4-spd from the following numbers:
C-13546-B
68-20-79
I think it is a overdrive from an A Body. It is alum. case with cast tail shaft.I aquired this in a load of parts and thinking of installing in my 73 340 Duster. The aluminum bell housing is with it.
Thanks for the help.

Those numbers don't do anything for me. Check the raised machined pad for a partial VIN. Aluminum is definitely late model. Also, those are not the strongest units around but will get you down the road if you don't abuse it with too much power.

A bodies have a shorter tail shaft than B & E bodies so you will know from there. Most of the aluminum case overdrive 4 speeds were installed in small engine A bodies, trucks and some vans. There were not designed to be performance trannies but for economy.

It should have a partial V.I.N. on it that will identify the plant the car came from and the model year it was installed in. When you know what models are built in which plants at the time the car was built you will be able to narrow down what it was installed in but that is about it.

Thanks everyone for the replies but it has become a moot point. I brought the trans home yesterday, cleaned and painted to look as new. Loaded it back on my truck to return to the shop, making sure to close the tailgate as I have a cover that blocks my view of the gate. Evidently it did not close all the way and when I pulled off from a red light the gate dropped and dumped the tranny out. It broke the input shaft and now has a fist size hole in the case. Just another day in the car hobby.
