I have a 70 RoadRunner I am putting in a stoker 440 and changing from a 4 speed to a 727 transmission. I am using an engine plate to secure the engine in place of the regular mounts and a mid-plate. I currently have the engine and transmission in the car without the mid-plate and there are several problems. The engine is at least two inches forward from its normal resting place. I was instructed to put the transmission in first then mark where the engine rests and go from there. The engine is hitting the K-member mount on the drivers side because of the block plug on that side is too far forward. The engine plate is sitting on the frame ledge on the driver side, but not on the passenger side. There is plenty room for it to center istself and rest properly, if I could move the engine back. I am using the indy external oiling system and the external braided hose is blocked by the K-member. I am also using TTI headers and can't see how they will fit in this tiny space that I am looking at. As you can see, I am in what seems to be a mess.

Question # 1. Am I using the correct transmission mount? The same one from the 4 speed, that I was told I could use. It is my guess that if I can correct this problem, I will have the solution to the 2" I need to move this engine back.
Question # 2. Does anyone have pics of their similar set-up that I can see in detail?
Question # 3. How can I route the external oiling hose to work around the K-member?
Question # 4. Is this a bad joke, or how will I get my $800.00 TTI's into this space? Yes I have power steering!

I cannot believe that with all of the intelligence and knowledge and experience on this site, that no one has had this issue arise, and that no one is willing to share or chime in on a possible solution. Oh well, I guess I am speechless. Thanks anyway!!!

No, I've never done elephant ears and a mid plate. And the one car I messed with with ears was a 63. Can't tell you what year K was in it either.

I can tell you that the 4 speed and auto trans mounts are the same. But your problem may be that you have a 69 mount (the bolt in metal piece) instead of the correct one for a 70

Thanks. I turned the bolt on tranny mount around (I thought it could only go on one way) and it worked. I still have the k-member problem and the TTI header problem! Have a great day!!!

heres what I had to do with my milodon external pickup line, first and second pic is bottom of pump third is hose snaked under filter on top of k. fourth is from between k and pan topanand last is view from side of pan with hose going over top of k. i used 2 90,s and the supplied hose.hope this helps,i tried a 45 and other things b4 this.

The trans mount is not your problem. To locate everything you have to bolt the transmission to the mount. In 70 the 833 went to the same mount location as the 727 and 904. Ounce you bolt the mount down to the crossmember, you can locate your front and mid plates. Use the photos for routing your oil lines. One other thing don't bolt the front plate to the engine until you get it sitting where it needs to be. You should be using your old block for this work without the heads on it. And yes when you get it all in your headers will go in. When you get everything mapped out put your starter and left header on. Sit the engine in and bolt down the left side. Raise the right side and slkip the header in from the bottom.

Daredevil thanks for the pics. That helps tremendously. I cannot remember if my pump has an opening in the center of the pump like yours. I will have to run the 90 from the end if I have enough room. I will check it when I get home!

Patrick, My headers hit the steering box and will not allow the engine to sit down. I will have to go with the manuel steering box if I can find one!
