lmao...… my July 4th memories when I was a kid...….every year we would all go to Uncle Buck's house for a July 4th BBQ and Dad's birthday combo party..... Uncle Buck had an inground pool...… I remember opening clams at a young age!

i remember going out and raking and digging for clams plus a lot more at a young age
former Barnegat Bay rat here
used to hustle the bay and i was pretty good at it.
had a pretty nice boat before i could even drive
paid for my first car ..lol
then it got old fast..
now I buy or rent my clams..

had a good friend in Tuckerton who did that...…. went with him a few times, hard friggin work

went with him a few times, hard friggin work

that is why it got old fast..lol
by the time I turned 18 i was done with it
i had all kinds of hustles going on back then
had my 14 foot starcraft with a 20 hp merc was my favorite small bay boat
could drive that thing anywhere on the bay
Crabbing on the flats was the best
you could do almost 2 bushels a hour
just scooping them up
clams,Crab traps,minnow traps,sell fish
net seine the bay shoreline
but you had to be on it almost everyday
and also know where to go to sell it all
you also had to know your surroundings well to enhance your harvest.

Love Clams, every time I am back on LI my Brother and I get the Little Necks, Cherrystones, or Top Necks. When I was a kid Pops used to take us to Jones Beach or point Lookout and we would dig them with our toes. Out here in the PNW we get nice Razor or Gappers. Cant eat them raw, fried or in chowder only. The oysters are monsters and the mediums need to be cut in half to get down, Yumm. Good on the BBQ too. The Dungenous crabs are great also and we fish for them regular.

I remember BIG clams...… lol, the cheap, tough ones...…… these old boys were depression kids

I learned how to shuck a clam with my Buck knife as a teenager. Ahhhh the good 'ol days. Crabbin off the pier with a raw chicken leg; couldn't pull them up fast enough. Now...like most of you, I want my crabs served to me with a pitcher of beer.
