I heard about this event last minute and boy was it a awesome experience, so the story is a local boy scout wanted to earn a patch for giving back to the community so he decided to have a Tri-City dragway reunion. The track was built in 1966 near the airport in Freeland Michigan by Draper Chevrolet and it closed in 1978. I have heard many stories throughout the years from a lot of the old-timers and others about this track all the big names that raced there . It was a car show only and they did a food drive as well ,all the cars were lined up and down the track and on the return road. It was probably at least a mile or so of cars on both sides. It was a huge turn out. The tower is still there, but everything is grown over. It was amazing to be at such an historic place it is by far the best event I have done in a long time not sure if it’ll ever to happen again because it was a special event. My understanding is the airport owns the property and it’s kept locked and gated.
