Hello all, looking to see if you think i'm on the right track to having an issue starting my 65 coronet. Car has the 273 in it. I'm having a fuel delivery issue. Fuel pump is relatively new and I've changed the fuel filter. How can I test the fuel pump? Does the fuel line just run down the frame rails on the passenger side? Wondering if I maybe have a leak, I'm not able to tell from marks on the cement as the car is currently on the grass. Could it be a air block? Just looking for some pointers. Thanks in advance.

Could be any number of things. How long has it been sitting? The fuel line runs from the fuel pump back to the tank. I think you can count out an air block. If it were me, I would disconnect the fuel line at the pump and have someone crank the engine while I held a finger over the fuel pump connection. If it is sucking, I would blow some compressed air back through the fuel line to the tank to see if it is plugged. If the car has been sitting a long time the gas could be varnished up and plugging up the screen inside the tank. If you can have someone listen at the fuel cap when you try to blow air through, you should be able to figure out if the line or screen in the tank is plugged up.

Make sure gas is vented. Cracked hose sucking air bad gas and 6p-2-go items.

A little bit more detail on what the car is or isn't doing would be helpful. Is this a car that's been sitting, first time starting it, has it been running and is now giving you problems, what type of carb??? Obviously if it's been sitting there could be a number of problems like rust in the tank plugging up filters, gummed up carb, etc which pretty much requires rebuilding the carb and cleaning or replacing the tank. Have you dumped a little fuel in the carb to see if it fires so your certain that it's a fuel issue? I'd pull the line from the carb and have somebody crank it over while holding it in a container, that should narrow it down quick.

How old is the gas?

Had to deal with an old pickup once, that wouldn't start, and had old gas. Rigged a fuel hose from a gas can with fresh gas, to the pump, and it fired right off.

Tank was replaced a few years ago. Started fine in the fall. I have poured some gas into the carb and it will turn over, but doesn't stay running. I'm not 100% which carb it has. I'm going to try and blow out the lines tonight. See if I can feel pressure at the fuel pump. I'll keep you all posted.
