I just put a new msd 6a ignition and pro billet distributor on my 69 roadrunner with a 440. I'm definitely getting plenty of spark and fuel but it still won't start. What should the initial timing be set at for start up? I'm sure I just have the timing wrong to get it to fire

about 10 deg before should start up.most common problem is putting it in 180 degrees out.very common on big blocks.

Yeah I've got the firing order right and I will try the 10 degrees before, I was set at 4 so maybe that's my problem.

it should still start at 4 degrees. bring up #1 cylinder on compression and take off the dizzy cap and make sure the rotor in the dizzy is pointing at your #1 plug wire....umless you FORGOT to put the rotor on..... sounds to me like youre 180 out.

There is power to the msd box and I'm getting great spark. I did bring the number 1 cylinder to top center and line my rotor up to the number one plug on the cap. And it's still not firing? I'm getting plenty of fuel in the carb too

Yes I am getting spark with the key in the run position
how do you know this if its NOT running?????.

even if your ballast resistor was KAPUT.....it should at least start until you release the key to " run'

if you claim that you have fuel and spark...and the plug wires are correct....and everything is correctly done....theres NO reason it shouldnt start.....i think you overlooked something.

explain to me please how you know that you have spark in RUN and START if this machine is not starting or running.

TRY THIS :......pour about an ounce of fuel right down the carburetor .( where the choke is).....crank it and see if it WANTS to start.....unless you did this already.....if that dont work................

check to see if you have spark at BOTH the coil and spark plugs

pull the coil wire that goes from the coil to the middle of the distributor..PULL IT OFF THE DIST. AND GROUND IT OUT...CRANK IT....SEE IF THERES A BLUE SPARK........if you have spark there..............then

pull off any spark plug wire....shove a Phillips screwdriver in the socket and ground it....CRANK IT AND SEE IF THERES A BLUE SPARK THERE ........IF THAT DONT WORK...............

make sure the wire on the negative side of the coil is going to the distributor....and the positive side of the coil has a wire coming from the ballast resistor.......im runnin out of ideas here.....you could POSSIBLY have the wires switched on the coil.

I'm not getting spark from the plug wire. I have great spark at the coil and the ignition box is getting great power. I've checked all the connections, al the plug wires and all the grounds. What could be causing no spark to the plugs?

is the rotor in the distributor?

You have the coil wires reversed and your grounding to the coil. Go to the MSD web site and read their self test procedure. Also do you have a good body to frame and motor to frame ground?
