Troubleshooting reverse lights

maybe I take on too many projects at one time,

I finally figured out how to replace the reverse light bulbs on the 67 Charger (thank you gaskets that double as glue). I was testing them and found neither work, not with the old bulbs and not with the LEDs I was going to replace them with. I found the spring loaded contact stuck and corroded on one so I cleaned both up and freed up the spring action on them, still no luck. I am going to try and locate the reverse switch next and see if that’s bad. Any other areas I should check out while I am at it? The wires into the trunk look good, I have to check inside the trunk next though.

Just went thru this on my 73 and it was the reverse light switch on my 4 speed, check the fuse first same as the radio.

Bulb sockets have to be grounded. Use a jumper wire to check.

The switch is located at the single terminal wire on the trans.

Get a Power Probe. Best tool ever made for checking electrical systems.

If it's an automatic with a console. I would look at the switch in the shifter, on both of mine you have to move the shifter a bit towards park position for the switch to make a contact. Could easily be adjusted but I'm ok as long as I can get the lights to turn on.

I don't know about your model but my 904 torqueflite has the neutral/reverse switch on the driver side just above the transmission oil pan. My switch was a 3 prong. You should have continuity between the 2 outer prongs when in reverse. Shouldn't have continuity with transmission case.

My reverse lights were intermittent until they just finally stopped working a few weeks ago. Hoping this will fix it but I'll get to it when I get to it. Too much stuff to fix!
