Trunk Torsion Rod Adjustment

Gents,

Is there a trick to adjusting the trunk torsion springs on my '64? A special tool, a certain procedure, can it be done without help? I need to up the rod tension and fought with it for a bit then thought i'd ask. The service manual shows a special tool but I'm not even sure what it does.

I used my arm cannons to move mine, lol! It is a b!tch to do, at least it was for me.
