Trying to buy this car....

Are parts and sheet metal hard to get/ expensive? I’m expecting rust.
Quick shopping list of sheetmetal at AMD....
Quarter skins
Outer wheel houses
Trunk floor
Trunk floor extensions
Full interior floor
Trunk gutters
Rear window filler
Rear window corners
$2800 plus freight.

Could be more, could be less but that is a good estimate of sheetmetal replacement of known rust areas.

Nothing is cheap anymore I know. I’m going to try and catch up to him Monday morning and talk to him. It could be a pipe dream. But I figured it’s worth a shot. I hate to see cars especially mopars sit and rust down to nothing. And I see a lot of cars doing just that on a daily basis. I know I can’t save them all but I’ll do what I can! Thanks for all the help!! Hopefully he’ll entertain selling it and I can get fender tag and vin number and a whole bunch more pictures. Just gotta wait and see.

Wow! Thanks. That’s not necessarily bad depending on what I could get the car for.... finding the time to do the work is another story....

I really envy you. Not because you found this car, but because you're only 28.

It looks like a 69 not a 68?

D
I thought so too, hard to tell from the photos. But either way it is still a WM21 car.

Yep, '69. Also has the power bulge hood. Bonus: it's a post coupe! Probably is a Super Bee.

Agree, looks like a '69 WM21. Decent power bulge hoods are hard to find. (and $$$)

agreed on ditching the mercedes.. go there in a gremlin.. and tell him its on its last legs.. he might feel sorry.. :D

Ride up on a bicycle, the old kind with only ONE speed, not a fancy multi-speed.

What does a decent newer car or truck cost anymore? (I drive junk so have no idea) Whats it cost to do a really nice driver quality car? Slightly more? And it's a hell of a lot funner to play with!!

The front fenders will run you about $1000 for the pair of repairable pieces, more if they are really nice examples.

Some days I feel older than twenty eight...

Enjoy your youth. 35 is a turning point physically. 45 you have to start paying attention to the little things. I was happy to make it to 50!!

30 - 40k will get you in a nice 6 cylinder something, maybe even an 8 cylinder for a 2018 model. It only goes up from there if you want something really "nice". You will be lucky to get into this Super Bee for less than that for a "driver". OEM restoration, add another 30 to 50% on the tab.

When I find a vehicle like this I have a method to determine value.

1. What is the fair market value of the parts you can salvage.
2. Evaluate originality of the car. Does it have all of its numbers components, build sheet, etc?
3. Can it be restored? Lots of rust is a minus, no rust a plus.
4. Is the car unique in any way? If yes, this is a plus.

How you assign value to each of these points is dependent on the individual. Until we have more pictures, some of these points are hard to put a number on.

With just the 2 pictures you have, $5k is the high end for this Super Bee. Maybe less if the rust has taken its toll. Just my 2 cents.

what is it worth ? how bad do you want it
I want it but don’t need it. I have walked away from deals in the past because I felt like the deal wasn’t good enough. Some deals I walked away from I regretted down the road. I reckon how bad I want it will depend on how solid it is and how willing he is to deal.

I’ve really changed my way of living so I’ll have a chance to see 50. Had you asked me even 6 years ago I would’ve told you I’d be lucky to see thirty. I was young and stupid. But it’s water under the bridge and all I can do is move forward. My new wife knows nothing about cars but doesn’t care if I have them. My ex wife...... well I’ll leave it at that. When I saw the car I text her and told her “hey I found a car I want if this fella will sell it” her response was “okay” gotta love a woman like that.

Rear window lower corners rust thru and let water in the trunk and take out the trunk floor. Leaves and crap get in the cowl and rust it from the inside. Check the interior floors too. No front fenders are being repopped now and probably never so they can get spendy. The rest of the metal is available.
VIN should start with WM21 if it is a Superbee. Motor and tranny may or may not have the SO number from the VIN tag stamped at the top behind the intake manifold. The SO number will be stamped on the radiator support and driver side trunkrail under the weatherstrip. Looks like the bulge hood is there. Fender emblems look right and located in the right place. Post coupe was the only roof option (no hardtops in 68) so that checks. Looks like some cancer in the lower quarters but that is expected.
Value varies with conditions and if the drivetrain is present. From the 2 pics it is hard to say. Anywhere from 5k to 10k maybe? More for 4spd and matching #s.
Car looks like a 69 to me. I've seen lots of 68 Coro Hardtops, R/T's. Are You saying the Super Bee packages were available ONLY in Post Coupes?

68 Bees were all coupes. R/Ts were hardtops. 69 Bees came coupe or hardtop.
Hard to see the reflector on my phone but i agree this one does look like a 69.

The Wife and I ordered THIS in January 2015. We negotiated to $ 34,500 plus tax and license. Challenger R/T 5.7 with a few options. GREAT car!

It is a 69. There is another clue in the 2 pictures that gives it away. Let's see who comes up with it.

I'm guessing it's not the O2 tank and post hole jobbers?

Hopefully you can get as many of the parts as possible
all them little trim & dash or interior parts, grill, tail-lite bezels etc.
& a bunch of new sheet-metal, windows, rubber/seals suspension,
brakes & drivetrain 'ALL will cost ya', all that stuff adds up fast
do have the skills to do most all of it or do you have to pay someone else ?
parts & shipping aren't cheap either, labor is usually the big killer...

Not trying to discourage you...
I've seen a lot worse, hell I've built a lot worse...
Easily a $50-$70K for a nut & bolt full OE style restoration,
It might still only be worth "that amount" when finished too,
not that that matters, but a 383 base post car, were mass produced,
don't bring big $'s, but are still a very cool/desireable car...
But to do it correctly especially if you're having to pay anyone
to have work done... "could be even more"

Depends on what you want to do with the 69 Bee...

Sometime we make decisions on a whim, we fall in love with something,
that we regret soon afterwards, not thinking it thru, doing the proper due diligence...

I'm not saying to not buy it either...
Just weight all the options & the time or money issues, a good place to do it,
that car will be a long term project, no doubt unless you have
a bunch of funds socked away already, still will take lots of someone's time/sweat...

But;
Now here the tough love part, I in my 40+ years of experience, now,
The sensible experienced thinking come in...:poke:
I always try to 1st find "as complete of car as possible",
take time & do a complete search,
or try to at least find something you have parts to work with,
at least that way you can restore something,
not have to buy everything...
But not knowing what your final build style is,
make a day 2/modified car or a full 100% OE rustoration...
IMO It'd make a great build to modify...

{that car doesn't look very complete, it's rough too}

Again I'm not trying to discourage you,
more information is key, the more you know, going into it, the better...

Either way, I'd rather save a bit more if need be &
just spend a little more $$$, on the initial purchase
{again we don't know how much yet {?}, depend if it it's dirt cheap, or if not}
to find/locate & even to ship a car & even pay someone to look at something
that knows what to look for &/or a plane tickets to check something out,
if need be, for something a bit more complete, running & driving {preferably},
a lot of times it's money better or well spent !!
Than months upon months of time consuming, frustrating & costly
body/paint repairs & let alone rust repairs &/or sourcing all the
little missing pieces/parts too, some are really hard to find &/or expensive...

But;
Have fun that's, what ever you decide, that what the hobby is all about...
Do what makes you feel good, not what everyone else wants,
your decision could be completely different than mine would be...
And that's OK too...

Good luck

I’m not a nut and bolt restoration kinda guy. Unless it was something super rare and needed to stay original. I’m looking to make a driver out of it. Doesn’t have to be first in show just really nice. I say I can do all the work myself. I’m no expert welder but I’m getting better. Most of my previous projects were mud trucks or helping friends with their stuff. Although my skills may improve my time to work on stuff doesn’t grow. But I also don’t want an already completed car. I don’t have the funds or desire. Half the fun is building it. Learning as you go. I’ve never done self learning fuel injection but me and my dad are in the process of a fi tech swap into his challenger. It’s an interesting learning experience. I like a good challenge. I appreciate your insight. All of y’all’s input and advice. Y’all have a lot more than I do!! I’ll take all I can get! Input, advice, and information is always welcome here.
