well,i have had my TTi headers hanging on the wall for 3 years, finally got around to putting them on,was excited,UNTIL i had to dent it by the idler arm for clearence, now i have this problem,my number 3 spark plug is right against the header tube, with the plug wire on its burning the wire.VERY DISAPPONITED WITH THE BEST HEADERS ON THE MARKET,AT LEAST PRICE WISE.so heres my solution,i am going to have to dent the tube for clearence,i cant even get a spark plug socket on the plug, have TO use a open end wrench to get it loose,i know the tube is welded all the way around the inside but just a few tacks on the outside, what should i use to dent it with,i dont need much, but if i brake the weld it will leak.ANY SUGGESTIONS HERES SOME PICS.

Yep, common problem with headers. That is really close. I would mark the header tube where the plug comes by it and remove the header. Heat the pipe with a torch (acetylene, butane, propane, etc.) until the tube is cherry red and then put a piece of pipe or a socket wall on the tube and hammer away. Like you said, the tube is internally welded to the flange and you hammering on it is not going to disturb it. You can buy a replacement silicone boot at pretty much any auto parts store that sells the silicone wires. It's a hassle, but it will keep it from happening again. Note that I had to do this on my TTIs as well:

i was hoping for a solution with header on,i have tried the boot insulator but it lays right on the header and still burns the boot

Stay away from the header wrap. The wrap holds moisture and will rust the tubes.

I have TTI's and Edelbrock heads on my 440. The Edelbrocks angle the plugs, so it's a bit different. However, I went through a couple sets of plug wires too. I finally splurged for Magnecor wire and MSD pure silicone boots. This was not cheap, but the boots have stayed together without any other insulator for quite a long time now. The Magnecor wire is also suitable for very high temperatures. Now, don't get me wrong, if you go yanking plug wires when they're super hot, they'll probably come apart. But in normal use, I've had zero issues. While my motor rarely tops 195F, that underhood temps around the headers are quite high. I also used the bendable plug boots. They're straight and can be bent up to a 90 degree angle, so you can get a really custom fit.

I've got the exact same headers on a 440. I changed my dipstick tube a pretty much straight version. It gives you a little more space to orient the plug cap and wire. I'll see if I can get a pic tonight. Or where are you in MI? I'm in Brighton and you are welcome to come by and take a look.

If you dent the headers you'll screw up the ceramic coating. Then it will rust.

Perhaps get some 45 degree boots. I had to do that with my #6 wire.

I make MSD wires with ceramic boots. the MSD multiangle with hi heat boot might work there as well.. The ceramics come in 90* and 45*

I can send you a boot or two to check fitment if you want, you just need to pay shipping and a deposit.

Sorry you have had a "bad" experience with your TTIs

I have 2 sets.
1. On my 70 Superbee (Hemi)
2. 63 Dodge Polara (440 set up as Max Wedge)

I will only buy TTIs.

Good luck.

I have a 69 Coronet R/T with 2" TTI on a 440 with PS. I bought these in March 2013. Looks like they dent the tube near that plug now.

A lot of folks on here buy Firecore 50 plug wires. They are over $100. I have no experience with them, yet. I'm counting pennies.

Here's a link to some more heat shields.

Good job. I burned up several expensive boots from MSD and Accel before I pulled the header and did the same thing. Now I use Taylor 8mm with 45* boots on all the plugs. They do the job at about $56.00 and you can custom make the lengths.

I have 2" TTI headers and use Firecore plug wires with Indy EZ heads. They have never burnt a wire at all. I used Taylor wires with 906 heads and Hedman headers on my old 440 and also never burnt a wire. But I highly reccomend the Firecore plug wires you see here on my eng. Ron
