TTI Headers on a stock 440?

I have a stock 70 440 in my charger with 906 heads, a holley carburetor and an edelbrock performer intake manifold. The car currently has maybe a small step above the original cam maybe even an original magnum cam and exhaust manifolds and 3.23 gears. The car runs great.

But, like most of us. The thought of having a little more power is tempting. I don't wanna tear into the engine but have thought of putting on some tti headers.

What type of gain would something like this be worth? 15hp? Since I plan on keeping it a stock engine, would 1 7/8 headers be better or 2"? It currently has a 2.5" Flowmaster exhaust.

Cam specs will matter, but probably 20 hp. I would go with 1 3/4” headers. Folks have gone absolutely nuts on header size. You’re probably 100 hp short of even thinking about 1 7/8” headers.

Yeah, tti headers are pretty pricey for what you have there. I’d go cheaper headers. But that’s just me, it’s your car and money.

Keep the stock hp manifolds, if you have them. I doubt you'd see much, if any, horsepower gain going to long tube headers.

i'd probably just leave it alone but if headers are a must 1 3/4 is enough or perhaps look at tti's shorty header.

TTi headers are pricey but..
They fit fine for the B Bodies, excellent build quality..

My '69 GTX is VERY simular. And runs well. The car is not numbers matching. (Really not even close.) But period correct. It's VERY tempting to look for more performance. But I know myself. And I am capable of screwing up something that shouldn't have been touched. So if I was to go for higher performance? Go all in. On different engine, suspension upgrade and drivetrain gear sets. JMO.

Stock engine, 440 has so much stock. My 2bbl 383, when I inherited it, kept stock everything except manifold back. Had 2" installed very professionally, looked stock. Sounded amazing, kept under hood temps down, and would still spank a stock 5.0 Mustang w 2.9? gears in a '67 4dr. IMHO, unless you're gonna dig into the engine, the stock setup w duals will sound great and have more than enough torque

For my old 69 Dart, I started with a stock 360 and then went all in with aluminum heads, big cam etc. So to have a stock-ish engine is weird but being able to start it up, let it idle for 30 seconds and be able to drive away is nice. I think it sounds good.

@Cojohnso1 that sounds nice. Purple shaft cam or is that stock?

If I do go with headers, 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 it is.

Chasing horsepower is great. But if you're not going to get into the engine, the headers, that are small enough to work w stock, are not worth the money or effort. "When" you decide to dig into the engine, then spend the money on what you need. I doubt you're 16 n listening to your ego.

It's a purple grind. But just a small step up from stock.

Do what makes YOU happy. If you want headers on then do it, you will gain a little horse, just knowing you got them on in your mind you will gain alot of horses, lol. TTI's are good but I like "Doug's Headers" better, kinda spendy but you get what you pay for. They fit like they should no starter, steering box, or plug wire issues. Get yourself a pair of 1 3/4 ceramic coated you will love them!!

I think the Dougs are only 2" for RB engines.

Headers can be a real pain chasing header leaks. I’ve had good luck with multi layer aluminum gaskets.

At your power level smaller headers would be ok, larger tubes are usually more difficult to install.

Recent trend is going back to stock manifolds for reduced maintenance and stock sound. Just look at the cost of magnum exhaust manifolds lately.

If you go with headers, you should think about upgrading to a Performer RPM intake as well. Air in, air out. Then a set of aluminum heads and a bigger carb. Got to decide where a guy stops.......

I have the same intake manifold on my 440, a cost effective horsepower gain for my car was switching the original 4 bbl Holley carb to a Thermoquad carb. It was years ago but I only paid $15.00 for the Thermoquad carb and it was definitely a power increase and it drove better in hot weather.
