Hi
I have been around here for awhile now. Been restoring a 67 GTX I purchased in 2022. Thought I would share here as I am sure I could learn a few more things along the way.

It is a Hemi car with 4 speed. It was raced in the late 70s I believe. I am working to restore it to a great car I can drive and enjoy with my 3 sons. The original drive train is long gone but I have been working on those parts over the years.

Here are the first pictures from when a friend of mine (who I bought it from) bought it out of a junkyard in the 80s.

I will try to post regular updates as life permits.

Thanks for reading!

Justin

Dig the old school paint scheme. Hope you keep it. Reminds me of my old bosses Nova, still has it, that he raced in the 70's. SS/EA. Thats a history piece you have there. Wonder how many others here remember that car from the track.

First thought I had was I wonder if it's Gil's old car, then I noticed your location & that just made the possibility more likely... Till I saw the photos... Definitely not Gil's car... But super cool bit of nostalgia... Great project!!

1967 Plymouth GTX Hemi | Concord CA | Carbuffs

I wasn't sure, turns out Gil's was an auto...

I streeted/raced a 1967 Hemi 4 Speed GTX for years (Ran 11.56@117) in So Cal.
Root beer (never looked at paint code) with copper interior.
I Sold/Traded the body in the 70s when I used the drivetrain as a spare
for my 68 Factory Hemi Dart.

i traded to body and $1,000 for a 427 powered 57 Corvette (Ran 10.81@128).

I saw it with a 383 auto for a few years and then it disappeared for ever.

Thanks for sharing, as a 66-67 buff, I really like it. Are you going to keep the rear quarter panel treatment?

This is what the car looked like when I purchased it in January. My friend who owned it had started to do the body work. The guy who raced it had cut out all the interior parts that held on the door panels and everything. So my friend had that all replaced with original parts from a parts car he had bought.

The car is currently with the painter and has been there for about 18 months. I will get to that part of the story a little later. Not sure if @1 Wild R/T remembers but I got the painter recommendation from you a while back. Overall it is going great just taking time.

So it is going back to Turbine Bronze with black stripes like it originally had. When I bought it I basically got all new parts for it so it will also be getting the original white seat interior. Not sure how I will keep that clean with the kids but I will figure it out.

Here are some pics of the car when I picked it up. I actually was on a work trip in North Carolina and flew to Dallas. Rented a u haul truck then bought a trailer and picked it up. My dad met me and we drove from McGregor Texas to bay area CA in 3 days. It was a long drive in a Uhaul with 160k miles and questionable breaks but we made it.

Well as it turns out when we sandblasted the quarters for paint they needed to be replaced. It had a ton of bondo on them

I grew up and lived in socal up until 2018 when we moved up here.

I actually had to sell my 69 340 4spd dart when we moved up here. I love the hemi darts and was debating this GTX or just building a hemi dart. Maybe that will be the next car.

Kly68gtx that is nice! Given I bought this car in pieces I imagine as I begin to put this thing together I will be asking all sorts of questions.

This one was turbine bronze also. We are practically neighbors too. I am quite a bit behind you on progress though.

To think I could have had a 68 GTX Hemi for $3600 brand new. If I only had a real job back then and not in the Service.

Here are some pictures of the quarter panel replacement I was lucky enough to get the amd quarter panels and the fitment went smoothly.

Now these are probably the straightest on the car.

When I brought the car home the jack holder mounts had been cut out. They were literally going for every ounce of weight in this thing.

The deal with my wife was that my 3 sons had to help me with this project. So they will show up in pictures now and then. I will say having them clean parts has been a huge help.

I was able to purchase the pieces from Wildcat and my son and I welded them in.

Would have been a lot easier to do when the quarter panels.

I think I got them in the right spot. No turning back now.

My Satilite 383/4sp factory a/c is also turbine bronze. The funny is that it was parked in 1972 with about 95,000 on the speedo - wearing the same 1972 plates and......a repaint ! Not sure why on the repaint - it's real thin now but the car did or must have had shelter for some time. Not much rust and the seats are almost good to go except for a seam split on the drivers and the back seat seam split. Funny stuff....bought it off owner #3 who didn't know much about the car....another funny.
