Turn. Or brake. But not both.

I just noticed an odd glitch tonight as I was checking my tail lights, signals, etc using the reflection in the front window of my favorite convenience-store. Goes like this: brake then signal=all good. Signal then brake=no brake lights, signal continues to flash (either side). Either one will work independently of the other, head/tail lights on or off. I'm thinkin' there's something in the sequence that's causing it, but WHAT?
It's a 76, the tail light sockets ground to the tail light assembly, but could a bad ground cause that specific of a glitch? Maybe the brake light switch? Easy enough to replace, but doesn't seem right. Just typing this gives me ideas of a couple things to check, but maybe someone could save me some time here. This is my daily driver so there's not much time for troubleshooting between now and work tomorrow and I definitely don't need trouble w the fuzz.

Did I say fuzz? I meanted po-po....sorry.

Bad grounds can give you all sorts of hell. Stupid crap that you would never think could be a problem.

Bad turn signal switch...replace it

you already proved the brake light switch works...and all the lights work as they should, so grounds are good. The contacts inside are worn, just replace the turn switch

he said the brake lights didn't come on. What would the turn signal switch have to do with that?

The brake light feed is through the turn signal switch. When the switch is in the left or right position the brake feed is interrupted to that side. When switch is off brake feed to both left and right sides.

Well I learned my lesson for the day.

All of it runs through the turn signal cam switch, trust me I have had to deal with this. Take the steering wheel off and repair / replace the turn signal cam I was able to repair some of the contact points on mine and it still works. It is a cheap and easy fix.

Mine does the same thing. It's a brand new switch from classic industries. 114 bucks. Any one know where to get an OEM? Where are you guys getting yours? Hope they aren't all the same stuff, from the same place.
