Uh - oh how much???

1970_plymouth_cuda_95135555910719741[1].jpgDSC02682[1].jpgi-think-ill-get-the-car-washed-see-ya[1].jpg go for it I like it

I have always thought the wrong thing to do when I was going to look at a car such as this, was to drive something nice or restored over there. In my mind, all that does is get this guy's imagination going on how good this car will look done. Years ago I went out and checked on a 70 340 Duster, but I left my plum crazy purple 340 Duster at home. I figured if that guy seen how good mine looked, his price would then either go up, or stay firm. Just my thinking I guess. This guy don't care if you have to prove you can restore the car. He will have nothing to gain once he is no longer the owner. Sure a few people would love to see their car go with someone who can fix it, but in the end it's all about the money.

Gotta agree withmoparmusclecars. When he sees the 68chicken, he will assume you have money. Who else (but someone with a bank roll) shows up with a freshly finished car wanting to buy their next project? He's REALLY not going to come off that $16K when he sees what you already have. I would roll up in the most unassuming daily driver you own.

You guys could well be spot on (and I think of those things too) if nothing is known about the seller, however some guys like to know 'their car is going to good hands and will be done with as they would like to have done but didn't get it done' .. if that makes sense. Sounds like the chicken has some background with the guy so he's probably factoring in his first hand knowledge of the guy. And if that's not the case another way it could be looked at is .. the chicken can lay out the facts first hand as he has done and it is showing it ... the car took X thousand hours at #$ per man hour to do, cost XX,*** thousand dollars to fix, etc... so there is a lot of $$$$$$ needed to fix this car to make it this good ... flashes smile and looks at nice car vs car that is a pile of dusty (but nice) parts.

Mitch - It's obvious he is basing his "asking price" on the advise from others or TV shows, if he's not on the net seeing real life sale prices.. This is what I'd do and by no means am I an expert but it tends to work, be gentle and can be done tactfully.
Print out some running, driver condition comps of Cudas. God knows there are a ton of $15-16k Cuda's out there (70 -73). I'd take him about 4 or 5 comps.
Let him see that for $16k, you can get in a Cuda and drive it.
Explain you are interested, however with all due respect, the price does not reflect the condition of the car "IN YOUR OPINION".

Leave the comps in his shop or on the car. Let him simmer over it a week. Yes - the car has 1 owner, matching number, big block 4 speed value (drooling).
After a week, take the $8k in one pocket, $2k in the other pocket and a blank check for an additional $500-1000 for "just in case" money.

The good thing is, that he's not actively marketing the car. He just needs a dose of reality and to see what his one owner car will look like when you're done with it (drive yours over like you said).
Hell,, even offer up periodic photo updates to show him progress. That will have an emotional impact and satisfy some of his sentimental value he has built into the price.

Thats my 2cents.

mitch shouldn't take you long to get her to this stageIMG_2714[1].jpg:headbang:

I really had no intention of spending this kind of loot on my next project. I was really thinking about an A body Dart or Barracuda for around 5k that I could street rod with a big block . You know , a nice fast driver. But this Cuda deal kinda fell into my lap. So I got to thinking, and I thought that if I was going to spend this kinda money, I should check out this 64 Belve 426 Street wedge 4spd car. I've known about this car for a while now and have some connection with the family. The farmer that owns the all original car has been approached several times about selling it in the last 25YRS!!. My son is friends with his nephew and he lives on the farm in a trailer. So I went by there the other day and talked to him about the car. He says it will be an uphill battle to get Uncle to sell it, but Nephew would like to see someone get the car that will restore it. So he says "You want to see it?"... Hell Yeah.So he takes me into the "BARN".I took these pics of the car. My camera is acting up, But I think I can decode the fender tag if we look close. Some of these pics aint so great. I think the car was originally gun metal Grey. I think the tag says MM1 , someone Im sure will tell me.Anyhow , this may be in my future instead of the Cuda. I'm going to approach the guy in a couple of days when he gets back in town. I think that I can also use the possibility of buying this car as leverage on the Cuda if I need to. Wish me Luck!!! Sorry Ken. I Know you wanted to see that car also, But It was a last minute surprise to actually get close to the car.

Mitch, I hope you can get the 64 out of there. I had no idea it was so poorly kept. Good luck getting it, hopefully he will part with and not expect to pay off the farm with the proceeds

Is there something wrong with your camera? I just noticed that both the 64 and the cuda pics appear pinkish.....
