Ummm......440 Tractor anyone?

Stock Farmall M and the 440 powered M in a tractor pull.Put them in the same class with a 6 mph speed limit like a lot of the antique pulls are around here and the stocker would out pull the 440 powered one easy.Car engine torque is way different than the tractor engines.

This was built by a UK rod shop recently for a drinks company :blob1:

Gonna have to disagree with you on this.
A real "stock" M is 35hp, and would come no where near blowing the horn at 6mph. We pull at 3mph and a stock M is all done by 5500lbs. My money goes on the 440 powered M.

Back in the day all we used was Narrow Frontend (NF) tractors. Dad had an Allis Chalmers D15 with an NF and a bucket. It was a little dicey to operate at times. You had to pay attention. He/we also used to have an Oliver Super 88 diesel that, in the winter, he would build a small fire under the oil pan, on the barn floor, to warm it up enough to get it to get it started. what could go wrong???

My dad said they had a 730 diesel and grandpa would light afire with corn cobs under it to getting to start it in the winter.

I think there's an old Farmall M near me that's for sale.

I need to send that to my buddy in MN. The guys cousin, who is sharp and knows his way around machine tools, came up with an SBC conversion for some tractor. Apparently this is quite popular and he's always making conversion kits in small batches. I do like the 440 version better and will suggest that!

Getting to be a few more V8 powered tractors showing up to our pulls. The 440 powered M, 44 Massey with a 327, 44 Massey with some other SBC, and yet another 44 Massey with a 396. There is also an Oliver with a 454 too.
Problem with these is keeping them safe. Putting a 3-400hp V-8 into a tractor that was designed for 35hp that's 65 years old, and twisting them to 6500RPM. I flag at a lot of pulls and when these tractors pull I get way the hell out of the way. Don't need a chunk of cast iron in my skull.

A couple of months ago, I saw a Farmall with a 500 cadillac in it.

That Farmall model must have a frame or something that makes it an easy conversion.

Don't most tractors use the engine block or trans as the frame member?

Some tractors of that vintage were built that way.
I think they use Farmalls because they're cheap and ugly. :icon_puke_r: :toothy5:
