Under Dash Brake Linkage

Working on a 68 Coronet. I just reinstalled the steering column, and brake pedal linkage. I have a spring hat is about 3" to 4" long. I remember it falling out when I took it apart two years ago. I can't figure out where it goes. Does anyone happen to know? I can't find it in the shop manual for the car, or anywhere on the web.

The other end hooks up at the top in the two slotted holes. Here is a pic It is an anti rattle spring. doesn't serve any other purpose.
