undercoating ?

what to put on undercarrage,
should i just leave painted or should i reundedrcoat?
car will be a weekend driver garage stored
 
I like to paint mine....hate undercoating. I've rust hiding under the crap too. It's not a perfect seal imo.
 
I like the paint,i wanted to buy a very nice car years ago and it was undercoated ,pretty heavy so i didnt buy it,scared me off.I wonderd what he was trying to hide,come to find out it was a good car.I dont under coat anything
 
Alot of cars with it, and sometimes the undercoating saves the car from being a "Flintstone". Mine was factory undercoated and a few spots had come loose, so those spots were removed and I re-did it. Also as a bonus, the heat and sound deadening that comes with undercoating is a bounus imo.
 
I undercoated my recent project with truck bedliner out of a gun, for the main reason I will be driving the living heck out of it and I don't have to worry about rocks coming up causing paint chips and possible spots for rust to start, plus it's an extra layer over the already sealed surface. I'm sure it won't eliminate all chips, but will drastically reduce it. Being i'm the one who already owns the car and knows it's fresh, clean, coated metal underneath puts me on the other side of the fence. If I ever went to sell it, god forbid..I can see the point mrkinger brings up...what's underneath? Guess I got the pic's to prove it, but no one really takes anybody's word for anything anymore. I wouldn't use the "undercoating" in a can or roll on, or is rubber based (porous). Totally different than what the factory used back in the day anyways.

i only under coat cars that are going to be driven alot on the street,and possibly in bad weather.never use it on high end,race,or show cars.
 
I live on a dirt road, luckily only have to drive one block before pavement starts, but I can hear the rocks creating little rust farms underneath even at 5mph. Undercoating is a good idea. Gonna put it on my to-do list before winter storage.
 
fyi, harbour freight has the mini scaler on sale for 20$,
this thing is great to remove the undercaoting, simple and clean, barely scraches the origional paint
 
My 69 Sport Satellite came from the factory with undercoating and I feel that this is the reason my framerails and floorpans were in such great shape.I have it up on a rotissourie and stripped all the old undercoating off and cleaned it by media blasting and wire wheeling down to bare metal.It is now completely sealed with 3 coats of Zero Rust.I then used undercoating from Resto Rick to coat the entire underside as it was from the factory.The inside of the quarter panels were also coated as it came from the factory and painted body color.I couldn't be happier with the ease of application of Ricks undercoating and I think that the look is totally authentic and awesome.Knowing that the underside is now totally protected,I am very glad I decided to go the undercoating route.Good looks,sound deadening,no rock chips,all good in my book.
 
Try the U-Pol Stone Shield product, good stuff! I just did the W250 I'm restoring, under the bed, and under the cab, nice stuff!
