Hello, looking for some help in identifying an issue which arose out of nowhere with my clutch and/or transmission. Vehicle is a stock 1970 Charger R/T with a 4 speed. I am able to shift vehicle into first and reverse gear normally, but occasionally, after releasing the pedal, and the car is engaged in gear and progressing slowly, I am experiencing a sound I can only describe as a loud growl, and the car will not move. Can anyone give me an idea what could be causing this issue to occur? Thank you all in advance.

Hi
This is all guessing and conjecture , as the A-833 transmission I have in my truck has been completely reliable and trouble free ! So here goes .... The first thing I would do would be to check the shifter for operation and wear as maybe on occasion as you say it is not moving the shift forks into position for correct engagement. Also a much worse situation could be that the input shaft and/or the main shaft Ball bearings have pilled up and are affecting the engagement of the Main shaft gear cluster with the counter shaft. I would most certainly inspect the trans by removing the side cover and check all of the gears etc. looking for anything "obvious" . Pull the driveshaft as well and have a look at the yoke splines it's not often but I have seen damaged splines . That's all I've got right now but like I said I'm just guessing....
