Lots of Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, and Van Hagar.
Lucked out last night, as we drove through torrential downpour on the way to the mostly outdoor venue.
Radar showed rain all around but was very light once we got there.
Lucked into a parking spot in the first row, despite thousands of cars being there before us.
Almost the shortest walk possible minimized the slogging through the wet grass.
LoverBoy cancelled at the last minute due to the weather.
Sammy came out and said "**** That", and played several extra songs to make up some of the time.
Very light rain a couple of times during the show. We only felt a few drops at one point.
I've never been a huge Van Hagar fan, but I enjoyed those songs.
That was the era my wife was most interested in, though.
I particularly enjoyed the early Sammy stuff.
We got- There's Only One Way, Heavy Metal, and I can't Drive 55.
Sammy played dual lead on those songs.
Satriani did great on the EVH stuff however...
The mix was not the best.
Drums and bass sounded great. Audience could move and groove.
But the speaking vocals and the mid range of the guitar were lost or down in the mix.
Joe's stuff was about half buried unless he was at the nut or past the 12th fret.
2/3 of the stuff Sammy said between songs was so boomy you couldn't understand.
He must have thrown a dozen things into the audience, about half of them signed by him or another band member or both.
They did let Joe play "Satch Boogie" which was cool but the lack of mid range guitar in the mix kind of hurt it.
This was very obviously a love fest for Sammy and Michael Anthony. Nothing wrong with that.
Jason Bonham was WAY better than he was with "The Led Zeppelin Experience" a few years ago.
They also had an uncredited in the merch Australian guy that played keyboards, rythm guitar ocasionally and back up vocals. Keys sounded dead on.
I had read that Runnin With The Devil was in the set list, but instead we got Ain't Talkin 'Bout Love, which I liked better. Anthony sang that and did a great job.
Rock Candy was also supposed to be in, but instead we got Space Station Number Five, which was very cool but I'd have liked to hear Rock Candy, which IMO would have gone over better with the crowd.
Panama was the biggest hit with the crowd. It was 99% perfect.
2 drinks was over 50 bucks! doubles and tip but still...
Shirt was 55.
Sammy's about 75!
You could tell everyone on stage was having a good time.
Great show and glad we went.
Wife acted like a school girl most of the night!!!
