UPS vs USPS

I just got an item today that I purchased from a fellow member from Fenton, MI. The parcel was shipped May 19, and I got it June 22. According to tracking, it took 25 days to get from Fenton to Chicago international shipping centre. I had it shipped USPS to avoid brokerage charges crossing the border into Canada. I also avoid Canadian sales taxes this way. FedEx and UPS are not bonded carriers and must use brokers to clear customs at the border. They also collect applicable taxes for Canadian government. Still, it cost me $150 to ship my $100 purchase. I thought it very expensive for such a slow service. I miss the border being open and the ability of having my U.S. purchases sent to my postal drop in Port Huron, MI, an hour's drive away. A couple of years ago, I had a car door shipped from Georgia to Michigan. The shipping was $50 and I got it in a week.

USPS they damage 3 out of 4 parcels I get from them, good luck collecting insured , the bigger the package the worse its damaged, I wont send anything through them

Use USPS pretty much always and have had zero issues, damage, or otherwise. I have an account with them so I do pretty much all my own packaging, and labeling. I will us UPS as an alternative but only in rare cases. I don't ship large sizes so that helps. FedEx and DHL??? 2 of the worst as they always are slow, and I ususally have damaged boxes but contents have been OK...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Why is UPS the only delivery Co. that rings the doorbell to let you know that they've delivered a package?

Ordered a couple of batteries for my portable house phones and they still haven't showed up from 3 weeks ago. They are coming out of Utah and the tracking # shows they made it to the North Houston USPS sorting center and that seems to be where they reside now. The next post office would be my home 'main' PO then they would be going to an annex that's near me. Oh well. The Ebay seller refunded my money before I could reorder and I did that today. We'll see. Told them I need the batteries vs a refund.....another oh well.

I have had great luck with UPS & even shipping stuff USPS
only time I've had an real damage was FedEx
an A-12 hood
they farmed out the final delivery after it got close
shipped from Georgia org., I'm in the Sierras in Calif.
handed it off to some douche in a van, somewhere along the way
it got a corner severely damaged, driver/he claimed he never saw it
It was obvious;
Blatant rough handling, the box was nearly destroyed
I saw photos of it before it was shipped
the packaging & hood was perfect prior...
Never got a damn dime from FedEx, they denied all of it...

They had the balls/gall & claimed I must have damaged it myself...
Even after having their driver sign off, on the damage,
noting it on the tag...

I know our UPS driver/s him & his wife personally
(she works in the Murphy hub in the shipping dept.)
he's out on the delivery truck
they live up the hill across the street a few houses down
when he/she sees a package for me or my dad
(dad buys a lot over the phone old school, me it's online)
he takes special care to check them over
& brings them to US himself
any type of damage is noted on his end 1st,
right on the tag or his handheld computer/scanner deal
he leaves it up to me to decide...
So far so good...
Mostly just a lil' minor corner damage of the box here & there...

Most of my shipments 90% are from Summit Racing too
great service & usually great packaging too
In the rare occasion whenever somethings bad/wrong,
they've taken care of it

My dads are usually 90% from Stauer, he's an easy sale
they send him a catalog & he calls & orders something
or his many meds from CVS, it's usually USPS

I know our USPS drivers too, & the lady that delivers the mail
& the guy who delivers the packages too big for the mailboxes
they have separate trucks/or Jeeps for small stuff/mail here
both are hard-workers, good small-town folks
been working there for decades, when it was only like 10 people
for the whole county

Like I said the only thing I had that got really fucked up
was from FedEx & one of their contracted end delivery people

I treat the drivers/deliverers very well, with respect & they treat me well
funny how that happens sometimes

I know there's a lot of distance between me
& where I'm buying usually too...

Our local USPS
(comes out of Sonora main office, usually via Sacramento)
& our Local UPS are steller
(it comes to then from Murphys UPS hub, usually, via out of Reno Nv hub)
Knock on wood...

Sometimes it where you are too
seems a lot of the damages comes from
or in the final delivery spots/hubs
or on the trucks to the final destination

DHL sucks here, most people here won't use it or offer it...

I hope I didn't just jinx myself now

Everyone appears to be struggling. And in truth? UPS depends alot on USPS. Once apon a time UPS was the bomb for medium size shipping. USPS for mass mailings. UPS/FedEx/DHL for package delivery. And various freight companies for heavy. And life was good. But today? They too are struggling with delivery issues. It's everywhere.

When given the choice, I always use FedEx.
FedEx has always come through for me. If it can be broken, lost or bent UPS will do it. For many years my business used UPS. It is impossible to get them to pay for damage of any kind. After the 8th or 10th time of trying to file a claim I closed my account and went to FedEx exclusively. No real issues, good about tracking updates in almost real time if my clients didn't want to use FedEx we did not ship it. Tired of losses and rejected claims from UPS.

For you guys in Texas and ordering from Summit in Arlington stay away from LSO Lone Star Overnight. Call your order in and specify FedEx. Their drivers are the worst! I got a delivery last week, driver pulls up and gets on the phone, I walk out to save him a few steps and while walking out my phone rings, it's the driver he wants directions to my place, I try to wave at him and he gives me the wait sign, so I tell him just pitch it out and I will catch it. This is the 5th time in 3 months that they either say they cant find me or return the package to Summit. Different driver every time and always 3 or 4 days late, FedEx is overnight to me from Summit in Arlington ( I am in the Houston area) no up charge! The FedEx driver recognizes me and if I see him in a gas station or another business he says he has a delivery for me and gets it out of his truck.

Even Amazon sucks. What they call Prime "Next day?" Not even close. A week if your lucky.

We used to call D H L ---;Duey , Huey , and Looie.....

^^^ That looks like Debra , Heather , and Linda !!! ^^^

Here's my experience: If the package is small and not worth more than $100 or so, I only use USPS to ship from USA to Canada. It makes no sense to have to pay half as much (or more) than the package is worth to have tracking, insurance and the dreaded bullsh!t brokerage fees that FedEx and UPS tack on. I remember once buying a used vintage snare drum to restore for $50 shipped from eBay, it shipped with FedEx and I had to pay an additional $39 when they delivered it to me, due to their ridiculous brokerage fees.

If you're shipping something large and expensive, then yes, it's less risky and worth the cost to go with FedEx or UPS or DHL.

Those of us that ship into Canada KNOW to ship with the Post Office / USPS , if at all possible...

But I do believe that the $ 39 brokerage fee that U P S and Fed Ex are required to charge, is from your wonderful government......
One more reason to hate them....,

And , of course , many of the things I ship to Canadians go to a U.S.A. address --- and they take it across the border themselves , EH ???
Bribe the border agent with a Tim Hortons Donut and Coffee , and you can frequently pass right through !!!

$ 165 piece of trim delivered today.

re-formed by FedEX

it's now garbage but the wife said she can use it to stake up her tomato plants. :bananadance:
