Greetings Everyone!
I'm putting on a new intake manifold on my '68 383 engine which has a valley pan gasket. This is my first experience with a 383 engine. When I took off the old valley pan gasket, there was only that gasket in place and no other material type gasket on either side. I keep getting conflicting ways of what exactly is the best set up with new gaskets. Could anyone knowledgeable of this engine, please tell me if I need other types of gasket on either or both sides of the valley pan gasket when putting the new intake manifold on? Thank you very much in advance, 6T6 Satellite

The valley pan gasket is a pressure seal type. Meaning it has raised ridges around the ports that crush as you tighten the intake. No other gaskets are needed. I just put a very thin bead of sealer around the ports and along the end rails of the block. Also goop the corners where the heads meet the block.

+1! I've found with gaskets on either side of the pan, it starts to leak prematurely. Just the pan and some RTV for me!

X2!!!! Had a hell of a time getting mine to seal using the supplied gaskets in the kit. Ended up using just the valley pan, and Permatex "Hylomar" around all the openings. Really pretty color! I had problems getting the bolts to line-up with the extra gaskets.
