On a 440 valley pan should I use intake manifold gaskets under or over the valley pan???

Speaking from my rebuild book it says you should have them under and over.

Just the valley pan unless the intake and heads are not machined properly and don't mate up.

I use the Permatex "aircraft" (the stuff in the jug) for all the surfaces except the corners, where I use the Permatex 2 (the stuff in a tube). And assuming everything mates up properly on the motor I'm finishing for this 70 runner, that's exactly how I'll be installing it's new M1 dual plane

I only used the valley pan with a dap of permetex in all four corners. Motor is going on the 6th season with no leaks.

is the permatex black oil and heat resistant good for this?? All that silicone stuff is kinda confusing, what about the gaskacinch stuff that looks like rubber cement, thats for like water pumps and timing chain covers right??

I used the Permatex Hylomar recommended by others on this site and had good results. No gaskets, just the RTV on the ends and corners of the pan.

valley pan

Purchased the felpro kit that includes the felpro pan and 2 sets of gaskets....
Edelbrock RPM would not settle down onto heads properly with gaskets on both sides, but was perfect with the gasket only under the pan. Car is a 67 Coronet 500 with a 440.

I dont want to skew this thread, but I had purchased the Fel-Pro kit with the pan and 4 gaskets, didn't work, twice! Purchased a Fel-Pro pan ONLY kit and the pan felt "different", my imagination maybe? But sealed fine as I stated above.

No gaskets, a dab of sealer in the corners just like the factory did it.
