I have a 1970 440 six pack and 4 speed currently in my car. The motor is running and the trans shifts fine. I am cosidering selling it. The engine was rebuilt last in 1986, 30 over so original pistons are gone. The engine needs a little TLC. The balancer is corect for the 1970 6 pack engine. Anyone have thoughts on a value? Thanks

I'll get you yhe info on the carbs and trans when i can. There is a pic in my profile of the motor in the car.

its worth what ever you can get for it .

The only thing that would separate this engine from other 70 440's (other than the most obvious intake system) is the distributor, rods and damper, pistons, low taper cam and perhaps slightly stiffer valve springs. Did I miss anything? I think most six packs had the cast iron Prestolite dizzy as opposed to the aluminum Chrysler unit. There is nothing on the block that says it's a six pack other than tying the VIN to the car it came from. I also see the air cleaner base has a notch cut out of it to clear a two speed wiper motor on a B body. Without some documentation and the correct six pack only components it's priced as a collection of parts according to condition.

Is it or Isn`t it ??

I bought one of these 70 440`s back in the mid 80`s ,the exact same situation from a guy in Toronto. I was so excited that i never even took the valve covers off and it turned out to have 915 heads on it & turned out to be an 70 440HP2 block dressed up & had flat top pistons in it , not an original sixpack. : ( i was slightly green @ this then).
One way to check is to pull the spark plugs & take a light & shine it into the cylinder & look to see if the pistons are flat top (440HP) or if they are notched for the valves. If they are notched (& they must ,to allow for valve clearence) like these, i would lean more towards a six pack engine. At least you have an idea that whoever did that rebuild had some idea of the higher lift, six pack camshaft :headbang:

AGAIN THOUGH, Still without the proper documents, the truth will never be told!

Are you just selling the motor and trans? what about the pedals, bell housing, clutch etc.?

You missed the flame hardend crank, but I don't know how you would distinguish it from the standard HP crank. And yes, they all had cast iron Prestolites.

And on the above engine, the carbs are a matched set of T/A, AAR carbs.
