What is eveyone using on the cast valve covers, rubber, cork or a combination?

I've used both with good success. Just make sure the gasket surface on the head is in good shape. I've seen casting flaws in them that make it nearly impossible to get a good seal.

Rubber with steel core only--and substitute your V.C. bolts for studs--really helps eliminate leakage.

I have always used cork on both cast and stamped steel covers and never any issues. If you are running the factory exhaust manifolds those tend to cook the gaskets over time because they run so close. The fix is to put a heat shield between the manifold and valve cover.
