Viscous Fan in a 1962 B Body??

So the car is running good and we are starting to head into the hot summer months in AZ which got me thinking about keeping the car cool.

As my Belvedere sits, it has the stock 1 row 22" radiator and 4 blade fixed fan. No shroud from the factory. It does great driving around in traffic so far. It has crept up the gauge when we were stuck idling at the dairy queen drive through for 20 minutes without moving.

What viscous Fan package will work and do I need to install a shroud? The M.P. unit is discontinued. Summit has a bunch and I was looking at an 17", 6 blade fan from Flex A Lite (5717) and a thermal clutch (5557) from them as well.

Also torn on what to do for my radiator. Re core it with 2 rows or buy a new aluminum radiator? New is probably better way to go but everything else on the car looks pretty stock so it will stick out.
 
You might want to give the guys a call at Glen Ray Radiator ( http://www.hemiradiators.com/ ) regarding your original radiator, especially if you prefer to keep things looking stock under your hood. They restored my original radiator in my 1970 'Cuda and they built a big block stock radiator for me for my 1964 Dodge Polara project. They aren't cheap, but then quality workmanship and customer service usually isn't.
 
This is how I went: I had the stock tanks installed on a new 3 core radiator to keep the stock look. I had the shop sweat the saddles so that the tank/core was as far forward as possible; the stock location didn't provide enough clearance for the fan clutch. I also installed a shroud.

The fan clutch is the Hayden 2765 (I think) with a 6 or 7 blade steel fan.

The K member is the stock 64 piece.

I did the same thing on my '63. The Hayden clutch is a Jaguar application. Shorter shafts but seems to work the same. I had the saddles moved rearward 1/2" on a stock radiator. Works great!
 
Thanks for the replies. No A/C, same vehicle in my sig line. I ordered a clutch fan/clutch from Summit. I have about 4 " to play with. I'll pull the radiator later on and see about getting it re cored. I like the idea of getting a few free hp from the clutch style fan.

My radiator was re cored somewhere around 10 years ago (seems like last year lol) so I wouldn't be surprised if it needed a good rodding. So I'll just get a bigger core when it's out.
 
I got the first pieces of the puzzle in the mail today from Summit. 18" 6 bladed fan and fan clutch. Both Flex a lite parts (5718 and 5557). They fit very well and easy to install. The clutch is about 3/4" from the radiator, fan is the same size as stock 4 blade. Took it for a joy ride and no issues, plus I let it sit and idle in the driveway with no rise in temp. I will see how it does on extended drives but am happy with it. And my home made overflow tank is working perfect! Radiator re core is next on the list.

Nice fan - you'd think it was original Ma Mopar - except it has 6 blades, not 7.

One can only imagine how much more air it pushes (even with viscous clutch) compared to the 4 blade.

If you have 3/4" clearance from clutch to rad with a poly, I can't imagine that set-up would work on a big-block. The clutch drive shaft looks much longer than the Haden unit I needed.

10 years isn't that old for a copper radiator if you use good anti-corrosive. My car sat in a collection for 15 years before me, and when I had the top off the rad for a rod out, it still looked new.

I don't think you can just put a bigger core in your existing rad. If tanks are made for a 2 row core, I don't think you can fit a 3 row.. (I hope I'm wrong.)

but certainly didn't buy from him! (Temecula Valley Parts/Atlas Obsolete Parts) He went from super nice to arrogant assclown in 2 seconds once when he supplied wrong parts and I refused to pay return shipping for his blunder.)

That is crazy expensive for a shroud! Plus, looks like for BB car as the inlet is on the pass side. I will talk to my local radiator guy and see about adding a 3 row core to my tanks. If anything, I will have him rod and clean my core this summer.

The price is a certifiable outrage - but I have little choice as originality is important to me. I know I could have bent up a bit of flat strip and be done in an hour for $0...

In the end, it did cost me close to $0 as I bought mine secondhand from eBay, and the seller failed to supply many of the fixings as he should have. I lodged a dispute with eBay after the seller didn't want to help, the main problem is international shipping makes returns "difficult". So eBay refunded me which I didn't ask for nor expect! All I was after was supply of the missing parts...
 
I got a shroud installed. Found a 22" C body shroud on ebay and figured I could make it work. Added 1 1/4" strip around the parameter and filled some gaps. Fits pretty good with the repro mount kit (which is expensive for 4 stamped brackets, bolts and nuts that don't fit correctly). Good gap all around. I will get the radiator apart after I stop driving it for the summer.
