For my '67 Coronet 500, 318ci, automatic I bought a new voltage limiter off EBay, but it didn't come with a condenser. Is there anything special about it or is it just one like in a set of points? Is there a way I can test the old one to see if its any good. Is there a value for it. Will a continuity test show anything. Thanks, Dave

I'm not sure of the value but checking with an Ohm meter should not show continuity. If it does it's shorted and should not be used. It's just a capacitor so all the rules in checking those apply. If you have access to one of those fancy Fluke meters they often have a capacitor test feature built in, but you will need to know the original value to compare to the reading to know if it's still good.

I believe what this cap does is damp any surges from the limiter and the rest of the electrical system. That said using the points condenser shouldn't hurt, plus it's cheap enough so if you have any doubt just pop in a new one.
