Well for those who followed my charging system journey know that's it's been a tough go. Well after many hours of wire fixing, new parts and more new parts, I finally got the road runner to pass the charging system electronic diagnostic test. All system pass but the test did indicate a VR low voltage.

Any ideas?

How do you guys mount your VR? Do you mount it directly to the firewall or do you put washers between the VR and the firewall?

Well one thing I overlooked is the fact that I never started this long and PAINFUL process with a FULLy charged battery. Hummmm

OK, checking the voltage at the two field post on the ALT. Only .5 volts at both post loaded and unloaded. How can this be if the ALT tested good with a hand held machine?

If you read through my threads you will see my journey and the final solution. There was a lot involved. Exactly what is your car NOT doing?

Car was not charging, new alternator, new VR. Luckily, I ended up coming across the thread about grounding one of the two field leads off of the alternator. Did this today and I am in business. Thanks for the reply, often these things are not followed up on.

paladin06 what was the final solution? Although you said you would post the fix and thanked another user for information, I was waiting for your final fix. My best guess was engine grounding, but only a guess.

Final fix was the low/high beam floor switch. It was not grounded to the bear metal. Cleaned it up the mounting are real good, also replaced the switch and BINGO.
