Hey all,

Yesterday I pulled a couple of plugs. Did give the car a good work out during the last drive before winter. It was just too see what I can learn from them and check how its running. I am still a novice in the car hobby so I'd love to hear what you more experienced people think.

Looks like the mixture is a bit on the rich side.
Timing seems to be fairly OK judging by the discoloration in the bend.
There is quite a bit of crud on the flat surface. Im guessing from running rich since engine does not seem use a lot of oil.

What would you say about it?

Best regards,

Thom

Second opinion, eh ? My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you're ugly too. { Rodney Dangerfield }

I would say those look pretty good

IMO....Cylinders # 2-5-8 seem to be picking up some oil as shown as oil ash (hard crusty carbon) on the plug on the shell in the scavenge area between the insulator and shell. It just looks a little "greasy". If it were too rich, the carbon deposits would be dry and "fluffy". I'm sure others will disagree and have their own opinions.

What fuel are you using might help. What's your engine specs.

I always run premium 98 octane (can't really get anything better around here). I have imported the car last summer so I am still figuring out all the specs.

The engine is the original 383 that came with the car. It started life as the 2-barrel variant but now breaths through a 4 barrel intake topped with a 600 cfm 4160 Holley with vacuum secondaries. Has headers. The heads have been off once when the previous owner installed hardened seats but I believe that is the only thing was changed to the internals.
