So I ordered a large weatherstrip kit online. I received it yesterday and was looking at the trunk seal. I did a little research in some of the past forums and I see now there is a less correct aftermarket trunk seal and one from another company called Steel that is more correct. The one from steel has a notch in the bottom that fits more correctly around the sides and edge of the Dutchman panel. Now I’m hesitating putting on the less correct version. Are they both functional? If they are I am fine using the one I have. I just want to ask prior to putting it on if there’s any other issues with these less correct seals.

Everyone talks of this "notch", yet I removed my OE from my Lynch Rd Bee before restoration. It had no notch... and they simply used a roll of material on the line and cut as each car went down the line.

My Lynch Rd '68 GTX has the original trunk strip still in place. It's identical to the one in the Bee, and does a better job after 53 years than the reproduction whatever it is in my '69. I'd love to have an original for the '69, but the cost would probably make me cry.

The Steel product is $89

My '69 was purchased from a flipper who cut some corners, while using premium stuff in most areas. I checked the restoration file, and the seal on my car was $18, and it's bothered me from the day I bought it. I think I'd go with the Steele product, but I'm a little extreme about originality, byproduct of owning the '68 with all the original weatherstripping, and most other original parts still in mint condition. I have issues with trunk lid play on the '69, while the '68 locks up like a bank vault.
