What is the best way to lower the weight of the car? Do they make a fiberglass hood? What the lowest weight that can be had on these cars? Can you get them down below 3000lbs with a small block?

Hoods trunks front end wrap around doors are all made for these cars plus if you go lexan windows, get a better light weight k member. I'm doing all this to my 72 already have the doors.

welcome to FBBO... If your building a real race car, I would think with all the proper lightweight pieces & Lexan window w/an aluminum headed small block, especially if you use allot of aluminum parts & fiberglass or carbon-fiber pieces also... use lightweight fuel lines, a cell, lighter wheels, tires, hood, trunk, fenders, doors, bumpers & brackets, windows changed, remove carpeting & insulation &/or undercoating, lightweight racing seat, window regulators, aluminum or molly drive shaft, alum. manifold & rad., electric water pump w/no more steel pulley, use alum. pulleys, get rid of the heavy fan & use an electric fan, headers, lighter stronger tubular upper & lower control arms & tubular K-Member, racing rear 4 link or ladder-bar & coil-over type suspension, get rid of the heavy torsion bars & go to a strut or coil over front suspension, you could also get rid of the heavy leaf springs in the rear, or run CalTracs & mono-leafs, alum. MP 742 carrier {if you have a 8-3/4 rear}, spool instead of diff., alum. adj. racing shocks, racing brakes, etc.... A cage & sub-frame connectors, will add a little, but well worth the weight... good luck, But it ain't cheap, well worth it thou, but it can be allot cheaper than an expensive & heavy BB engine or high HP Big CI build, to move a heavy car... you can get 420+ci's out of a small block easily too...

You can get the doors, trunk and hood from usbody.com and showcar-bodyparts.com have a front wrap around along with other body parts like the bumpers and the things listed for usbody. As far as the other stuff budnicks suggested like he said search around and see what type or style you want and go from there. I'm thinking with most fiberglass from listed parts light weight everywhere you can you can get it below 3000 I would think I could be wrong. Heck I even got rid of my stock dash and replaced it with an aluminum one and found some sweet light weight braces for it.

This is what I was thinking; fiberglass trunk and hood, coilover/ladder bars set up, tubular upper/lower with coils up front, weld wheels, small block, and full interior. Have I lost any real weight yet?

Some what. I'd look into a tubular k member you'll drop a good amount. But hey go with what your thinking and see you can always remove more weight if needs be.
