hi guys. went to go see that javelin today. NOTHING like the ad claims...however it is a nice solid car....not a show piece by any means and DEFINITELY not worth the 15 G's he is asking.

drove it. has a 360 with a bad miss. mopar tranny 727,, shifted good....no major rattles or squeaks...few things i noticed but nuthin i cant fix. body gaps not what they should be.

it has side pipes that the dude claims was a " dealer installed" option that was pre -ordered. glass was good....some tinted , some not. power brakes felt like manual.... i want to go look at another one before i decide if i even want this one. paint was nice,,,body was straight...all black. interior was not original altho he swore it was. it has a grille on it that i cant find in any google pix i searched for. the dude wants 15,000....but i see it as a 8,000 dollar car. heres the one i looked at today

I think one would have to want that awful bad to pay $8K

Those pictures sure make it look good Dog, good luck if you decide on this one.. I like the look of the front seats...

In 1972 when I was shopping for a car I bought a 1970 Roadrunner..The week before that I checked out a Yellow 1969 AMX in Concord N.H. I think it was either a 290 or 343 asking $1200..The problem was it already had rust coming through behind the rear wheels and it was only 4 years old.. I know this is the rust spot for so many cars but, rust holes after 4 years ..Once I saw the holes I did not want the AMX any more..I can only imagine what the rear quarter looked like in the car you looked at 43 years later...

actually the 1/4's were solid. the whole car was solid...but it wasnt as advertised. it had a few issues i found and only spent 15 minutes with it...tho im sure theres more i didnt find.

thats an 8000.00 dollar car all day long as i see it, the grill was cracked...lots of small things. he said he had the car for 20 years and its been in the garage , then he gave it to his daughter for her 40th b-day...but she just dont want it....and he is trying to sell it.

on the good side, the dude had a 1970 duster in the garage he was working on. it had the solidest body on any A- body i seen yet.

i already have 2 mopars which i love...but i cant learn any more about them. i always loved the Javelin body style and just want something different. dont worry guys,,,,im not going to sell my beloved Plymouths. !

Even today a brand new car will show rust in 4 years in New England due to the amount of salt they use on the roads and the salt in the air if you are close to the ocean. It has nothing to do with the car or who made it. Undercoating is the key in New England to not getting rust in a short time

I always like the Javelin as well.. the big *** fin in the back and the 390 engine... it was a hot combo for a short bit but as a 2 seater I think it killed it maybe

Rambler Scrambler just doesnt have the looks of the Javelin

Description says 6 cylinder but it looks like it has the 390 in it.... sharp car!

The Hurst SC Rambler was a cool car but the AMX's & Javelins in 68-69 even 70 were very cool cars... I would take either, if they weren't total projects, AMC's are even harder to find stuff/parts for than Mopars, they are bad enough, I say buy one as complete & as good of shape as possible, maybe look out west, we have far more rust free &/or at least far less rust, to deal with usually... good luck Dawg...

Not a big fan of the after 68-69 evn 70 AMC's, I do love the AMX's thou... IMHO that 72 isn't worth $15K, let alone $8K, if it was a 70 or earlier maybe... The car appears to look decent in the photos, I don't know about the side pipe deal, I kind of doubt it's a dealer option, but I have seen weirder stuff also, I'm no AMC expert that's for damn sure...LOL...

That looks like a great clean tastefully done car for $13.5K

I went & looked on www.Autabuy.com , typed in Javelin, there were 23 from $900 for a roller project car to $46.8K for a Javelin AMX SST fully restored very nice car & all were probably way over priced...

agreed, not a fan of any car after 1970 even mopar, but everyone to there own as i cannot stand the look of those javelins hideous looking thing.
but good luck on your find

I agree the location had a lot to do with it..Yet, the 70 RR I did buy, never had any holes even by 1978 had no rust issues....Salt to me was biggest issue...I remember my Dad bought a 73 Chevy Estate "Boat" Wagon and before he took it home had it "Zebarted" which meant bottom was sprayed in Tar ..Smelt like **** for weeks...Does Zebart even exsist any more ??

If the car was sold originally in Pittsburgh and lived there all its life it WILL have rust, even if Ziebarted.

I LOVED those Rambler Scramblers. Back in the early 1980s there was one identical to the one above on a used car lot here in town for about two years. He wanted $1500.00 for it. I shoulda bought it!

I'm not a gearhead like many of you, but from where I stand the Javelin is one of the most awesome looking 70's vehicles ever made. And they're pretty rare, so if you're driving one, you're gonna turn a lot of heads. The fact that you're considering it because you want to start learning about a different make is a really cool way to approach it. I wish I could say I knew half the stuff I need to about my Charger. I say go for it, tpodwdog!

STU....mar aint sendin no steaks coz i been after his *** ever since the day he found out i hadda purple road runner and I tried using that as"leverage" to wiggle him out of some Delmonicos.... to no avail. i guess were gonna " haveta ruff 'em uppa bit". maybe if we walk in there with a tommy gun and a fedora.... hell get the message !
