A friend is looking for a replacement tank for 68 dodge coronet 383 auto. I havent bought a gas tank for a long time so could someone point me to a good place. I know there are some junk ones-rust inside in a month or two- thats why I asking. thanks

I’m going to try AMD for my tank I was happy with the body panels I used from them

Can't remember where i bought mine, but can offer some insight. The tank bottoms are stamped with recessed areas where i believe, the straps should rest. Mine don't.

Spectra is a good tank, that can be bought from multiple sources.

I bought a Spectra also, probably because it was touted as being "Made in North America" (which means Canada), but seems to be decent quality, although not installed on car yet. Only bought because my gas tank was dented beyond belief and full of 25-year-old gasoline, etc. I figured it's just not worth it to save the original. But yeah, after market parts are never quite the same, are they? Instead of galvanized gas straps, you get stainless. Better, worse? Usually worse, sometimes better... But at least the part is new. May not last as long as original, but do we really drive them as much as we used to?

Regular replacement tank:

Did a quick search and Summit is $223, E-Bay $143

Replacement Tank with internal EFI pump / fuel level assembly. The tank also has internal tub/sump area that pump pickup drops into:

Did a quick search and Summit is $567, AutoZone $436? (rock auto, and some others are listing unit is sold out?)

I have a used tank and sending unit from a 70 Superbird that has been cleaned up. It is a Spectra tank with no dents and looks decent. I didn't have time to clean it after removing, but since have. If interested I will take $100 plus shipping for both items.

I bought the cheapie from Rock Auto. The scrip said it was powder coated and I wanted one to just stick in, kinda overloaded at the moment. When opened it looked really good, what I was looking for. But I noticed the rubber caps used to keep the vent lines sealed had silver "paint" all over them. We know power coating requires the applied powder be baked a 400 degrees for about 45 minutes. Those caps were either removed after powdering and reapplied after cooling OR the tank was just painted.....I m not sure I can tell which was done. We will see how it holds up.

Bought one from Rick @ Layson's. They are a sponsor of this site. Try to help out the guys that support us on this site...
