When you have one, you will never own another brand- the Cummins that is:D
We hot rodders chase big numbers with our cars but.....
2011 6.7, studded, deleted, upgraded turbo, and a programmable chip.....wait for it.....
643 hp
1095 + lbs Tq

These things are incredible

I know a couple people who have Gen 1 & Gen 2 5.9 Cummins retrofitted into their bowties.

Here's an IH Travellal w a Cummins Retrofit

Rugged and easily attainable. Buy an old bus or 3500 Ram and there you go. I almost regret selling a 90 Ram 3500 w a 5.9 last year. But I didn't use it anymore. Put a battery in it, glow the plugs and fired right off after it had been sitting for 2 years
Cummins has a following much like Mopar. A lot of us are both.
I've seen online people take small 4 cylinder Cummins from Backhoes and put them into Jeeps and Dakotas.
Tempting but I need not get distracted from my current money pit.

For years at the local truck pulls most of the Ford's and Chevys had these 12valve Cummins in them. I have a family member that has a 41 model dodge truck that has a Cummins in it

The Cummins engine is like the small block Chevy in the hot rod world...easy to find and with very little cost and time, can make some very impressive numbers! I currently own a '98 extend cab 2500 4x4, considered the holy grail to some, 237k on it and still going strong...well, not even broken in yet! LOL! Bought mine used with the previous owner putting in a modified fuel plate, 4K intake springs (stock these would not rev past 2 grand), and the removal of both the cat and muffler...with 4 inch exhaust from the turbo back. Nice and loud and will puke out the "coal" if lugged or I wanna be an ***! (I do not agree with the douche canoes who roll coal on pedestrians and cyclists...but I do admit to showing tailgaters what happens when you follow me too close!). The 12V conversion has been going on for a number of years, with many a Ferd or Chebbie getting the transplant due to simple power without the use of computers, DeStroked is one such company that makes a conversion much easier. You don't see anyone dropping a Powerstroke or Duramax in a Dodge though...well for the simple fact that "V8 is a fruit juice...so keep yourself inline!"

Saw a guy the other day with a Cummins in a CJ7. Needless to say, the chassis was heavily modified.

Not only more power but also usually better MPG. I regularly get between 23 and 25 MPG running 70 to 80 MPH with my Durango and usually the same in mixed driving. I also thoroughly enjoy the looks I get when driving thru town.

When we ordered our truck in early 2000, I debated getting a V-10 or a Cummins. Once I educated myself on the Cummins, it was a no brainer. Going on 18 years and never looked back. It's incredibly dependable, easy to work on, and I wouldn't want a truck without it.

64BEL...you must have a 12V yourself, I think it was in 2001 they went to the 24V head. Great motor and I agree about how dependable it is! One of the more popular things to do with the 6.7 Cummins is to delete and get a "tune" written for it, it seems that the 12V tune is very popular...make your 2010-17 sound like an old 12V!! LOL...I have watched a few videos on youtube with guys who have done it...sounds awesome! There are a few trucks here deleted, good feedback from the owners, most want to rid themselves of the headache of emissions crap! There is alot of support for people interested in doing that from the aftermarket. The only problem being...it is a very hard choice on a new truck...wallet-lightening and warranty-voiding decision!!

The 12 valve ended in early 99 my son just bought a 99 24 valve in very good condition with 112,000 miles on it .

The 24 valves came out in '98.5. That's why the '98 12 valve quad cab trucks are considered the holy grail, as moparcurt mentioned. While we ordered ours in Feb of 2000, it was already the 2001 model due to the caf standards. Our 24 valve has the loudest injection pump of all of the Cummins Rams. 2000 and 2002 is basically the same truck as 2001. In 2001.5 they went to rear disc brakes (we have drums). I think 2002 is the last year for no cats, too. Ours just had a muffler and big resonator. I pulled the muffler and original 3" pipe in 2001 and straight piped it with 4" from the resonator back. The resonator is just a straight through anyway, and it looks like a muffler, so I left it on there. I have the original muffler and 3" tailpipe in the rafters of our garage - low miles on them! 2003 is when they went to HPCR - common rail injection.

Get an aftermarket lift pump and also do you injectors/vp44 a favor and put 1 oz. of 2 stroke oil per gallon of fuel. Best 2 things you can do for the Cummins.
