I'm not one to hide stuff under my seats but do have an extra belt in my pickups and one it the back of the Durango but I've found some crazy stuff in used cars that I've bought over the years. One of those crazy things was a baggie of pot....very old pot at that. The story goes....in the early 70's, I bought a 67 Dart 273 V8 with a bad trans and then found a smashed 67 Barracuda with 50k miles on it that had a /6 3 speed for cheap so I bought it too and fixed up the Dart using the entire front underpinnings. For some reason, it had all new ball joints etc so it all went in the Dart. The Dart had a lot of miles on it so why not use the 6 but I wouldn't think a 50k mile car would need a complete new front end but it was there. A year later, my interior was going away (the barracuda interior and blue and my Dart was red so I didn't keep it) and I found a repo'ed 340 70 Duster at the local Dodge dealership (for some reason) minus the engine and trans but the white bucket seat interior was nice and the 3.91 geared 8 3/4 was still in it. All of that went into the Dart including the carpet and door/side panels. Yup, all that stuff fits.
Fast forward a few years and some guy in a Toyota pulled out in front of me and I whacked him good and square and the impact folded the whole back end of his tin can down to the point where both his doors were jambed shut...but it really didn't hurt my car much except it made the radiator leak, dented the bumper and hood a little bit but I was able to drive it home and fix that and continued driving it. Well, 6 months later in mid 76 I found a nice pickup and commenced to using the Dart for a private demo derby. I hit everything I could including side swiping corner utility poles and running over those temporary lighted caution signs to flat out taking short cuts going over the curb and cutting across empty fields without ever slowing down. Yeah, I was pretty crazy back then! Heck, I even side swiped trees if they were close to the road!
When it came time to part the Dart, it was pretty beat up not to mention rusting away but the drive line was still in good shape and so was the interior so I began with pulling out the interior first with the the buckets being the first thing to come out. After I set them against the wood fence, one fell over and something shiny caught my eye....that baggie of pot. The sun had hit it just right and there was no missing it. That mess had been riding with me for years!! It scared me to think how much jail time I could have got for that in 76 and ever since then, I now check anything that I buy used and check it very well!!
