hey guys so im starting the process of putting a 440 in my 73 roadrunner over the winter. I will be tearing down and rebuilding my 440 so I will repaint for sure just not sure blue or orange. I will be tearing the car down again next winter when my own garage is built and changing the color of the car which im thinking hemi orange . It is white now but has some questionable body work under the paint but I can deal with it for another year. So im wondering if the orange block is gonna look bad with the orange engine bay when I repaint. I do really love the look of the blue blocks with black accents like valve covers it really pops. my buddy who's shop I have my car at for the winter says I should paint the engine bay black while the engine is out. I told him most mopars have the bay painted the same color as the exterior but he seems to think black engine bays are the only way to go. Lets hear some opinions guys and maybe see some pics to help me decide what to do . Thanks guys for you input

my 66 Belvy has the engine bay painted black...looks ok....but its not something i would have done, i bought it like that. i would much rather have it the way it should be but im NOT gonna rip out that engine to paint the engine bay ! heres some pix 003.jpg002.jpg001.jpg

orange motors in orange bays with black details look awesome

im having same problem...not sure which color to go with either blue or orange, ill prob go with orange since my cars white like yours, orange would look good on a white or orange car i think

lol that sounds good maybe ill just paint it hot pink with purple accents and glitter on the valve covers. would be awesome!

Paint the bay the same as the body. Keep with true Mopar tradition and style. For a 73 car I would paint the engine blue and add "accessories" to your preference.

blue engine 1.jpgblue engine 2.jpghere are some pics i found online I know its a small block and has magnum heads but i think the color combo looks great.

I was having the same problem. Going with Hemi orange or Turquoise. Being I am trying to duplicate the movie car, I decided to go with the blue. However, I might use my Mopar orange plug wires and an orange "pie plate". Just to get a bit of color. Heck, Max Balchowski did modify the Chargers a bit, who's to say what he did back in the day.

Paint the engine orange and for Mopar's sake, paint under the hood body color like it should be. Chebbies are painted black because it is easier. Mopar's take the high road, do it right although it is a little more trouble and work. Nothing about our Mopar's is easy except the feeling of knowing we own the best damn cars on the road.

I guess it's a personal thing. Personally i like originality. 66 Belvy's as all Mopars had the engine bays painted body color. The 66 Big blocks were painted a blueish Turqouise. It's your car and you're the one that has to be Happy!
