what exactly is "RARE".... ???

just saw a newer Volvo with a jegs sticker on the back window...that's rare

i would think finding a restaurant selling a Delmonico steak on the menu is very rare let alone a Rib Eye.:eusa_think:

too many people are confusing "rare" with desirable when it comes to $$$$.most of our cars are considered rare just because of the number of them on the road compared to modern cars.that gives some value but no where near as much as one of our cars that is desirable to us.a 4 door,6 cyl,3 speed can be rare with the right options.a plain jane 2 door,440,automatic my not be rare, but it sure is desirable.which would you pay more for?

I think anything that you don't typically see is rare and it doesn't have to be tied to production numbers. But that doesn't mean that my one of ~1300 66 361 Belvedere is worth $25K either. People tend to equate rare with $$$. The seller in most cases states that car X is rare and puts a big price on it hoping that the reader interprets this as rare = $$$. In order to get big $$$ it must have two components - rare AND desirability.

rare

For a car, I consider 1 of 500 rare, as in a Charger 500 or Superbird.

When compared with production numbers in the dozens of thousands, I consider my 66 somewhat rare (1600 vs 30,000 with a 318, or 3500 383 500 models).

I consider 1 of 250 vary rare and one of less than 100 extremely rare.

You do have to consider perspective as well.
It's the ONLY 383 column automatic with floor mats AND pedal dress up.
Really?

Well if that's the case why would a friend of mine with a California charger 500 with all real r/t parts and all numbers matching parts on car all original have so much trouble getting rid of it for $7500 those are considered rare but a r/t or bee more

silly rabbit! a Delmonico is a ribeye! boneless i believe.

lots of places here in Chicago sell Rib-eyes. Ditkas and Harry Caray's both sell Ribeyes. and they are to die for!!! both are bone-in of course. the bone is where flavor country lives!! :sideways tongue:

take it from the Meatman, bone-in ribeye is the way to go. forget a NY strip or a tenderloin. bland! people who don't know what a good steak is, go for the hoyty-toyty NY strip or tenderloin cuz it the most expensive. fools!!!! lmao

OK.......................THATS IT..................... Mar Par.....i will be coming to Chicago to pick up MY DAMN DELMONICO STEAKS!

should i bring the Belvy II or the Road Runner......both have the same size trunk !....lol

NOTHING compares to a good DelMonico steak.....NOTHINGGGGGGGGGGG. !
threw a NY strip on the grill the other day and it tasted like wet newspaper as compared to a DelMonico.

I'm a big fan of the T bone...you get the filet plus the bone next to it for flavor, plus the whole other side!!

I meant Charger 500 as in 1969, sorry the 70 and 71 are less rare, right?

Craigslist and Ebay + Mopars and/or Mopar stuff= "rare"

good one. i know that and it is the very best. i chirped because it is an old name in the business that you don't hear anymore. bet ya 2.00$ that if you asked 20 people on the street with no access to google that 3/4, 15, won't know what it is. i have been a meat wholesaler for the last 25 years and hauled meat for some years before that. i got on to it 30-35 yrs ago when i hauled for, politically correct, kosher, meat plants and they would tip you out for not being late with a box of Delmonico's. ok-ok $3.00. lol

ps; you will find some places with rib eye on the menu, not many, but you will look long and hard to find one with delmonico on it. now that is rare. " na whats up doc"

I had a 78 aspen super coupe once. One of 531 or something like that. But, it ain't no HEMI 'cuda. And it ain't that desirable.
I think they made less slant 6 dodge chargers than HEMI chargers, but we all know what brings the big bucks.

:confused2: Reading this thread has made me schizo. One of my personalities is even more suspicious than before of the word "rare" for car descriptions, and the other is putting on a chef's apron to cook rib-eye steaks medium rare. In Chicago. :confused2:

It's sorta like a 65 model 727. It's rare. One year only. Cable shifted with a slip yoke output shaft. That does not mean it's very desireable. Although I would not MIND finding one, I will probably just put in a 66 and up trans.

This is one of those topics that has always driven me nuts about Mopar guys. I don't know if it's the fact so few of these cars were ever produced to begin with... I mean, there were more Camaros made just in 1969 than there were E-bodies made from 1970-1974... but Mopar guys just seem fixated by "1 of" numbers. These guys live for finding that oddball option that no one wanted back in the day so few people ordered it, then using that option to proudly identify their car 1 of X that had that crappy option.

I was just talking to a guy who had just totally restored a 69 Camaro SS, and I asked him how many were made in 1969. He had no idea, nor did he care. That's a typical reaction I get from Chevy and Ford owners. But Lord, I can find lots of Mopar owners who will tell me their Roadrunner was one of "x" built with a 440, one of "x" built with a 440 and a 4-speed, one of "x" built with a 440, 4-speed, and rallye package. One of "x" built with a 440, 4-speed, rallye package, cassette deck, and in B5 blue, and so on and so on. They may not remember their anniversaries or kids' birthdays, but they know every option that was checked off on that build sheet, and how many cars were made to those exact specs, and they relish in how "rare" their car is.

This is why I don't look much beyond the package (Satellite, SS, SSP, Roadrunner, GTX) when I look at cars. If you're so obsessive that you know the 1 of numbers down to the stereo option or so, you're really missing out on a lot of life. :)
